Yea I figured they probably could. I was wondering if it was something they were capable of respecting if “taught” or introduced at right size/age. I have some geese that can hop / flap right over but I have many that never even try. It’s not terrible if they get over the fence. I have cool...
Does anyone range heritage turkeys using electric netting? I am new to keeping turkeys, I hatched 10 Narragansett poults about a week ago now and will have a few weeks before they go out to pasture. My plan is to grow them out and retain a tom and 3, maybe 4 hens…
But my plan may be foiled...
I agree, I would not want to use dish soap… I have used wax in the past with great results but they’re running a racket with the price they’re asking for that special blend of “duck wax”.
Now I scald ducks/geese at 160-165 for two minutes and have no problems pulling feathers. I did it manually...
I raise geese for meat. Usually process between 20-30 per year. You will be able to get them to weight before spring and the males start competing for mates.
I typically have all goslings hatched by the end of May. I give mine Grower / Brewers Yeast for the first 4 weeks then they’re...
Hello everyone, I’m in Lawrenceburg/Aurora, Indiana. We have a small flock of Muscovy ducks (French white hens and a Pied Chocolate Drake). I raise a few varieties of Geese. Embden, American Buff, African (production type), and I hope to add Buff Dewlap Tolouse to that list in a few weeks when...
I use one of these and it also makes the alarm noise whenever the eggs are turned. 🚨 ‼️ My kids always scream ROTATION!!! and run over to watch… but at 3am it does get rather annoying hearing that alarm go off in the next room.
I wouldn’t make any hole in any of the eggs at this point. It is still just only begun to be the hatching window. I have never had geese hatchon day 26 but I’ve had some on day 28-29. Could be an early bird.
Lock them down and let them be, I’ve had it take 2-4 days to get every egg hatched...
I’ll second that buffs are pretty quiet. I’ve only had one season with my buff geese, but the females are tolerant of intrusion on the nest and after several visits I not longer even get hissed at when lifting them to inspect the eggs. The male is also the first gander I’ve raised that babysits...
My opinion is that you seem to have a pair of ganders.
Chinese in general are pretty feisty, at least when compared to the American Buffs, Pilgrims, etc… that’s not too unusual even if you have female Chinese geese.
Ganders carry themselves a little differently (more erect, neck stretched...
I miss goose eggs all the time, they get buried or kicked to the side and then I’ll find them later on, it’s not too late in the season I’d bet you can incubate it or give it back to her.
