Possibly skin flakes under roosting perch?

Hi all, I have two RIRs and one BR hen, approx 1.5 years old, not laying right now as we are in the middle of winter here in NZ. Upon cleaning out their coop I have noticed HEAPS of grey flakes under the perch where they sleep. I'm assuming these are skin flakes, they are at the end of their...

    Broody Buster isn't working

Yep it is a wire cage with no nesting material. Good idea using feed bags to block off the nests; I'll give that a go

    Broody Buster isn't working

I'm in the North Island of New Zealand so probably a little too far away but I have considered rehoming her to someone who wants a broody hen. She is a lovely chook :)

    Broody Buster isn't working

Hi all, Having issues with my RIR, Sue, again. Noticed last Monday (02 Nov) that she was broody, refusing to get out of nesting box and puffing up and hissing when I tried to extract her. Got her in the Broody Buster Monday night, and kept her there all day Tues, Wed, Thurs. Let her out Friday...

    Roundworms - Treatment and Eggs

Hi all, Just had the revolting experience of finding roundworms in chicken poop :( I will be going out tomorrow to buy some wormer, the most prevalent one here in NZ appears to be Avi-verm (Levamisole Hydrochloride 24% w/v as an aqueous solution). New to chickens and have never had to worm...

    Broody Hen laying?

Hi guys, Just want to say THANK YOU!!!!! Broody Buster appears to have done the trick. Let Sue out late this afternoon and she spent 1.5hours or so pottering around the yard before dark, then after they went to bed I checked in on them, and all 3 lovely ladies sitting on the perch, not in a...

    Broody Hen laying?

Great thanks everyone. Have put her in a wire cage up on a couple of pieces of wood to sort air flow. The others are very curious about it, and shes not too impressed, but hopefully she will snap out of it soon...Thanks for all of your advice

    Broody Hen laying?

So heres the deal. I have a RIR pullet who has been laying for about 6 weeks (ive owned her for about a month). For the last week or so, she has been displaying broody behaviours. She is clucking constantly, spending hours on end in the nesting box, regardless of whether she has eggs under her...

Is a "Broody Buster" supposed to be completely wire (ie no indoor part)?

Sorry to bother you again, but how big is it supposed to be? Its for a RIR. I know its doesn't have to be huge as it isn't supposed to be comfortable, but approximate measurements? I am desperately trying to find something now before she influences the others lol

Great, thank you! You have been most helpful with all of my questions so far - much appreciated :)

Is a "Broody Buster" supposed to be completely wire (ie no indoor part)?

Sorry if this is a silly question guys but I am new to chickens so this is my first time with a broody hen. Most of the threads I have read say to use a chicken hutch, but these normally have a little box bit on the end. Are you supposed to block this off? Or can the hen still go inside there? I...
