Yes It is possible. I have a four year old chook that has never laid an egg, ever.
Don't jump to conclusions too fast though, it might just be the breed, weather, food or environment. It's pretty unlikely to get two hens that don't lay (Pretty unlucky to get one IMO :P ) so they're probably...
Don't worry it's just a scab. She'll heal in no time and be back to her normal self.
Unfortunately I have plenty of experience with ticks on all sorts of animals and chickens rarely get sick or die by the poison; Just a big lump where the tick was attached along with a scab.
I calibrate the hydrometer before every hatch but don't know how to with a thermometer. I was thinking temperature and have planned to go out and buy about four thermometers today :P
I have started helping the chick out and it seems to be malpasitioned. It started bleeding lighting after I'd...
Ok, well the eggs I am hatching are Australorps (as always) and are now on day 22. During candling most of them looked great but a couple didn't seem to be developing at the same rate which I thought was weird seeing as they were in a fan forced Hovabator incubator, shouldn't be any hot and/or...
Well all nine eggs hatched and I think I got two to three blues. I gave the chicks to a broody silkie and she was pleased to be gifted them.
That is the first time I have gifted chicks to a hen so was happy it went well.
The coop got finished in time too.
Make that three black chicks.
Their brooder is pretty well finished, it just needs a latch/bolt thing on one door and some windows.
I have a photo of yesterday's progress but I can't post it from my phone so I'll do it later.
Just because you don't know someone does not mean they are not popular.
In fact the people on your list seem to be either mods or your friends. Sucking up much
Well the chicks are now screaming at me through their egg to hurry up and get their home finished. And I am proud to say that it is almost done :D
Here's a pic of it so far. Excuse the messy shed.
It's going to have three doors; a tiny one for chooks to fit through, the top one that you can...
Why hello everybody.
Spring has sprung here as far as the chickens go. My first chick hatched about a week ago, a blue Australorp, and a mighty cute one at that.
I have another nine Australorp eggs in the incubator that are due to hatch in three or four days, problem is I want a little silkie...
I dont have any experience with this but if the poor chick has its eye covered then you should probably try getting it off.
Just use warm water and gently rub it off with your finger. I suppose you could use something with the water but make sure it's not too toxic and wont sting its eye.
Sounds fun.
As long as nothing comes up then I should be able to participate.
Sumatra503, I'm pretty sure you can edit your first post. You just have to press the "edit" at the top of the page under the thread title.
