    That makes good sense. So it seems to be better to introduce an older hen since it probably can stand for itself better. Also does age dictate the pecking order?

    You guys are masters! The cockerel started crowing about a week after I wrote this post. At 1st it was bearable since he started crowing not so loud and at 8am. But within a week he crowed starting at 6am then at 7am then throughout the day! We had to get rid of him... kind of sad :(

    We have a great looking health rooster that is 4 months old that we are giving away for free. We are not allowed to have roosters in our neighborhood so he has to go. Let me know if you are interested and live in san diego/la mesa area!

    That makes sense, thanks! I also don't even know what breed the 3 non amercauna chickens are. We got them from my sons school and they didnt even know. Are they Rhode Island?

    So do hens have tail feathers? See the Amercauna has a few long tail feathers. Not as long and curved as the rooster looking one but its there. One of my hens has no tail feather just a rounded bum.
