If anyone is interested I just put two little Cream Legbar Roos up in the classifieds section. They are super cute little guys, hatched from Warner Ranch eggs (Santa Rosa, CA). https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/1127521/two-cream-legbar-roos-2-5-mos-old

Two Cream Legbar Roos - 2.5 mos old

Southern California Two beautiful little Cream Legbar Roos hatched Memorial Weekend from eggs I purchased from Warner Ranch in Santa Rosa, California. (Foster Mama Henrietta is not for sale.) They have been raised on Scratch and Peck's no corn/no soy/non-gmo grower feed and lots of leafy...

Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

@PD-Riverman Good questions! I initially started without taking my hens off the eggs and for the first week and a half they got up every day without my involvement. After the first ant incident, I needed them to get off when I was able to check on the coop, and sometimes they also got up in...

Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

@lorelei71221 I move the babies and the mama right after the last chick hatches. It is usually two or three days after the first one hatched but you can tell when the mama has given up on what is still in the nest. I put a chick waterer and a chick feeder in the coop once I hear the peeping...

Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

Hi PD-Riverman, Thank you for the good information you share, and your good questions. My hens got up once or twice a day. Once when I picked them up. The other time on their own. The longest they ever stayed off is 30 minutes. When I pick them up and take them off the nest I just pick them...

Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

Hi lorelei71221 I'll try to answer all of your questions. I am by no means an expert, but what I have been doing works for me. Take what works for you and toss the rest. :^) I'm sure I am missing things, so please ask any questions you may think of! My broody hens get up once or twice a...

Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

So happy to discover this thread. I just set ten Cream Legbar eggs under my broody Buff Orpington this weekend. Henrietta hatched Bielefelders for me last year. I have a French Black Copper Marans hen who likes to go broody later in the summer. Last year she hatched Niederrheiners for me.

This beautiful pair of Niederrheiners were hatched on September 24th from Brinkhaven eggs. They are large, sturdy, friendly birds and can be picked up and handled easily. @gotro17 My run is 12x8x8 and was inspired by a UK photo I saw - a bit like this except mine is covered in 1/2" hardware wire: https://boylespethousing.co.uk/product/walk-in-single-rabbit-hutches/ I will try to find the exact page that was my inspiration. I wanted us all to be able to...

@gotro17 They really are gorgeous birds - the coloring is called Lemon Cuckoo. I am not far from you - La Crescenta. $120 for the pair would include delivery to your area. :^) I am allowed to have a rooster, but if a neighbor complains about the noise it becomes a noise ordinance issue...

@gotro17 They are available! They hatched on September 24th from Brinkhaven eggs, so they are just three months old. They are not old enough to lay/crow yet, but I would imagine the girl will be laying by end of January or February - they lay a large, cream colored egg. They are...

Happy New Year, everyone! I posted some pics of my Neiderrheiner pair over in the appropriate thread. If anyone is interested in acquiring them, go have a look at my post and send me a PM. They are very, very sweet birds and I am sad to let them go! I am in So Cal and will not ship them...
