I just caught my second skunk in a big live trap. the first behaved quite admirably. I was able to drape the tarp over the cage calmly and all went well. I don't even remember what I did with him. I think I let it go because I didn't want to deal with it.
NOT SO with the guy today. Totally...
Another update: She is doing great! No eggs yet, but she is perky and seems very "normal" other than limp. Chickens are so much tougher than you think.
Lil Red Update:
She is still alive and doing better. Eating more. More alert, More "normal". Making her chicken noises.
I have not restricted her to a kennel and I'm conflicted about that because I don't want to make her injury worse. I'm just keeping a close eye on her. She is actually she...
thanks for quick response Wynette.
I did not see any open wounds. I think the dog basically "crunched her" once before I got to her :( I have not ruled out internal injuries as she was "gurgling" and dripping clear liquid out of her beak after the attack. She "vomited" totally clear liquid a...
Hi all,
I looked thru several threads with similar issues to mine, but I want to make sure I'm covering all my bases.
My hen was attacked by my dog 2 days ago. Initially I thought she would die, but she hasn't. She is drinking water and eating a little. She definitely has an badly injured...
Has the hen that gurgles always made that noise when she breathes or is it a new development?
you know, I can't really say for sure. I want to say that she didn't do it when I first got her, or I would have been inclined to call the person I got her from. But she has definitely been doing it...
BLAH! I misspoke. I didn't use Vermex. I accidentally bought that realized it was simply a "cure all" type of thing and then returned it. I bought and dosed them with Durvet Ivermectin Pour On.
From what I read here, that was a more effective wormer. Again, though, I noticed no change in...
Thanks Eggcessive. Couple questions:
you say:
"They could also have some coccidiosis causing the runny stools, and it may be mild considering they don't have all the symptoms. But treating with Corid or amprollium for 5 days might clear it up, and won't harm them if they don't. The gurgly...
I currently have 2 hens. Previously I had four. I lost one in mid summer and another on Christmas. Both seemed to just drop dead, with no explanation. Neither seemed sick.
This past fall, I installed a droppings board and use SweatPDZ underneath the roost and clean poops daily. It has allowed...
Are you crazy? I'm not a masochist! I didn't get the new set of hens from the same woman who sold me the three hens masquerading as three roosters!! (I got them from a woman who lives nearby and she got them from a hatchery.) I know they are never 100% accurate, but often are. So yes, it is...
l would agree that age is the most likely culprit. But given that his siblings had only stopped peeping themselves in the week or two before, I really didn't think it was an issue.
Also, and I said this before. They _were_ introduced slowly, right next to each other with a fence between them...
The rooster is approximately 13-14 weeks old, the others are almost 10 weeks old They were almost 9 when I got them 9 days ago. They are still peeping a bit. But my gawd, I mean the rooster practically just stopped peeping! Seriously! The other two he was with matured at different rates, though...
You guys, I am 100% POSITIVE it was him. I walked in, right after it happened. He had blood all over his legs and beak. He was standing over the body. She was in a corner, under the hanging water, blood all over the walls.
Plus, my coop is a veritable Ft Knox, after many, many losses. It was...
