I know poultry auctions are risky.....

Hmmmm.... At least all the guessing will give me something to think about for the new few weeks! I'll keep you posted. While everyone is being so helpful; this motley crew is the others I was telling you about, the eggs I hatched. They are clearly a very mixed bunch but can anyone hint at...

I know poultry auctions are risky.....

ooops! Oh well, was fairly certain the black one wasn't a silver laced. I have no idea on age....they're a bit bigger than my 6 week old bantam chicks which I hatched myself (from uncertain eggs....poultry auction again!) but other than that I have no clue... I've checked them all over and they...

I know poultry auctions are risky.....

Got these 3 today at an auction. They were labelled chocolate partridge and silver laced wyandottes, do you think that's right? To my very untrained eye I thought it was worth a gamble that they were girls.....What do you all think?

Who can identify my bantam chicks?

Here are some new pictures, taken yesterday and this morning. The black one is 'Roger' from the names pictures - I was expecting his/her feathers to come in black and white striped as people generally thinks its a barred something...but they're pure black. Another one of the black chicks does...

Who can identify my bantam chicks?

Ah, ok. I had never heard of them, just did some googling and it could be. They're starting to get wing feathers now so I'll get some more pics. They're home with me now which my dog is delighted about!

Who can identify my bantam chicks?

Hi all, Have been incubating chicks with my class of 9-11 year old children. I have done this before a few times but always used eggs from my Dad's flock of orpingtons and pekin bantams. But this time he bought me some eggs from a local poultry auction. The only label they had on them said...

    Dy 25 - only 4/16 chicks - what did I do wrong?

Hi all, I've incubated some eggs with my class and tomorrow will be day 25. We set 16 eggs - 10 buff orpingtons and 6 pekins - and have only 4 orp chicks. We candled the egss day 11 and saw 8 orpington embryos and 2 pekins. I candled a few again day 16 and saw what I thought was 4 pekins and...

    Jessie Jazzs Chicken Coop

Welcome to my page! My name is Jess and I live in the South East of the UK with my husband. We live in a converted barn in the countryside called 'Harry' (our neighbours are Tom and Dick.) I have ALWAYS wanted chickens but it wasn't allowed in my previous house. My landlords here have said...

What breed are these chicks? (pictures of parents)

Yeah those cockerals are beautiful! One of my black chicks is definately a boy and he has a rose comb. The other black one has no visable comb yet so fingers crossed thats a girl. The white chick appears to have the beginnings of a rose comb too, but not as advanced or pink as the boy...
