I'm still a newbie, but are you sure that it's broodiness? What about a reaction to removing the rooster? Could they all be confidently vying for the top spot in the pecking order?

We also have ticks and I am proud to state that their run/coop doesn't smell (too much anyway). We get 5-6 eggs/day. :)

I went camping 20 miles from home for my only vacation last year. It was nice to get away. And I could come home BRIEFLY to check on the girls. It was better than no vacay at all. Wish you the best.

We had lots of extra garlic from our garden so I chop it up, add water, and give it to the girls appx. once/month as a worm preventative.

Eight Barred Rock hens, ten months old. Zero eggs in November and December. Began getting one egg/day early January. Just started getting two eggs/daily. NE MI.

I used a refrigerator box and a red heat lamp that could be moved up and down. Hubby used wire attached above a ceiling tile into a 2x4. Seemed to work well. Happy chicking! 😊

I use deep litter, maybe that helps to keep their tootsies clean. Now that I think about it though, the ramp going up to the coop is pretty disgusting.

We have two wooden boards about 4' long, appx. 3" in width. One is about 18" higher than the other. Plenty of room for eight hens and there's never been poop on them. :)
