    Color type of this hen??

Last spring I got a dozen hatching eggs from a guy that were supposedly from bourbon reds. One egg was solid white and the poult that hatched was solid yellow. Did not look like the rest of the poults. The guy also had royal palms so I figured it was just a royal palm poult. When it feathered...

2 week old baby chicks outside?

I put some chicks in an outside brooder last summer at 10 days to 2 weeks. It was hot out and I didn't have any extra heat source on them. They all did fine.

    Left over yolk on poult

He did hatch a good bit before the rest...didn't think about the warmer spot possibility. That's interesting. He is the liveliest and best looking of the poults but I attribute it to the fact that he's so much older.

    Left over yolk on poult

got some poults that started hatching yesterday. Lookin like we'll have a good hatch rate. But one poult that was born yesterday didn't absorb all of his yolk...I'm assuming that's what it is. Looks like a newborn baby's belly button. He's still alive and doin fine. Up and eating and drinking...

Do roos prefer to mate with their own variety?

I've got 4 dom hens, 3 SS hens, 1 buff orp to go along with a dom rooster and a SS rooster. Strangely enough the SS roo's "flock" is the dom hens and the dom roo has the SS hens. The orp hen tends to hang close to the dom roo but gets harassed by the SS. other than her they both tend to stick...

To free range or to not free range? That is the question

I free range exclusively. I have only lost one hen and one guinea to a wild predator. Did have an issue with my dog but that has been fixed. I live on 10 acres with only one neighbor. I've seen foxes, yotes, hawks and owls...fairly certain the owl or hawk is responsible for the two I've lost...

How long do chickens need to stay in brooder?

Used the heating pad method on the 4 we hatched this year. Kept them in a big tote box with shavings on bottom. At about 10-12 days I moved them to an outside brooder with no heat source. They are currently 4 weeks and doing well and feathering out. They have become much "wilder" since being...

    Dominecker and dom cross chicks

these four all have a dom father so it is my understanding that they will all end up barred...1 or two of these MAY have a speckled Sussex mother. They are just over 2 weeks old. There is definitely one that appears to be a cockerel...much more white on the wings and a noticeable comb. The...

    Dominique Thread!

These are the 4 chicks out of a dom rooster. The mothers are dom hens and there may be some with a speckled Sussex mom. Anyone able to tell which may be which? Or if the head spots give anything away about the sexing?

Had one pip the wrong end this morning. Could see movement at times but all was still at other times. Chick hatched just now and appears to be doin fine.

Where will my hens lay their eggs?

Mine free range and go back in the cool to lay. Did have one hen that wanted to lay under my raised dog pens but after about a week she went back to the nest box.

    R com 20 humidity question

I'm on day 19 rite now. The first 18 days the humidity was between 40-45%. The problem was the fact that on day 18 it didn't come up to what it was pre set for.

    R com 20 humidity question

Got an r com pro 20 from a buddy that hasn't used it in years. Put some chicken eggs in and everything was goin perfect til we got to lock down. The pre set humidity for the last 3 days is 65% but it wasn't getting above 48%, even tho it was filled with water. Was thinking maybe it doesn't have...

    Dominique Thread!

Appreciate it. Very interested in this hatch. None of our hens went broody so went the incubator route.
