Blue spots in cooked eggs -crossposted-

She does live right on the seacoast with a lot of marshland. I wonder if groundwater near marshlands would have a lot of sulfur. I asked her and she said that she has sometimes found the bluey eggs, too. Also, she frequently uses a cast iron pan to cook her eggs, and she cooks them for longer...

Definitely possible. That pan is pretty beat up, and I don't know what its base metal is

Blue spots in cooked eggs -crossposted-

kcan2, I was just writing my reply when you posted your article! It is a possibility, because my husband said they didn't turn blue until he took them off the heat and they started to cool down. That does sound like a chemical reaction

Blue spots in cooked eggs -crossposted-

They are in an outdoor pen, so if they can reach grasses or bugs or whatever, they eat it, but other than that it's just layer feed and various fruits/veggies/greens/inverts. NanaK in the egg/chicken recipe forum sent me a link to an article about iron and sulfur being affected by heat and...

Nope, they look and smell perfectly normal when they're cracked

Blue spots in cooked eggs -crossposted-

I originally posted this in the recipe section, but it was suggested that I try it over here, too My sister has a small flock and we get eggs from her, but recently we've been finding that after we cook the eggs there are bluish patches or spots all through the white. The first time it happened...

Bluish patches or spots in cooked eggs?

Hmm... That's interesting. I did think about that, but we all hate overcooked eggs, so we under cook them, if anything. We were using a regular nonstick pan for the fried, and obviously the boiled eggs were not in contact with any metal. The first batch of eggs were almost a month old, unwashed...

Bluish patches or spots in cooked eggs?

They are in an outdoor enclosure, but not free range, though she feeds them a very varied diet. In addition to layer feed, she gives them fruits, veggies, seeds, insects, worms and grubs from her garden. Her chickens eat better than we do! 😁 She had a blueberry bush near their enclosure, and has...

Bluish patches or spots in cooked eggs?

My sister has a small flock and we get eggs from her, but recently we've been finding that after we cook the eggs there are bluish patches or spots all through the white. The first time it happened was with some eggs that I thought we might have just had longer than I thought, but then we just...

    Our first egg! ^_^

She certainly thinks so! I don't know how to break it to her that I'm a girl, too, but I don't think she cares much

    Our first egg! ^_^

Yep, she does. She also does a trembly head bobbing dance while talking to me in an alluring ducky voice. Apparently I am a very acceptable duck mate :yesss:

    Our first egg! ^_^

She is super happy, and I think she's actually decided that I'm her mate. She definitely seems to do behaviors for me that look like courtship and mating behaviors. That's ok, once she decided that I'm the sexiest drake going, she stopped biting me as much 🥰😆

    Our first egg! ^_^

I found one! I'll probably wait to get it for now, since the Amazon shipping times are so slow now for the time being. They're overworked now as it is, so I can wait a while :D

    Our first egg! ^_^

We are super excited to see how it tastes, but when we try new eggs we like to boil them for the first try, and I've been reading that if you plan to boil duck eggs, it's recommended to age them a week so the shells come off easier?
