I would like to purchase 2 fertilized eggs for my brooding hen.

I do realize that I could get males instead of females, so would need more than 2 and doubt anyone wants to sell less than 6 but certainly don't want to buy a dozen and end up with lots of chickens I would need to get rid of. Thanks for the reminder and for those who read this also.

I would like to purchase 2 fertilized eggs for my brooding hen.

Does anyone know where I can get just two eggs? No local farmers to help out. I live in South Dakota and have 3 barred rock. Since I am in the city, can only have 6 chickens and don't really need more than 4 or 5. Most hatcheries in our area sell them in a much larger quantity. Would like...

    Lost a chicken

Thank you. She was only 8 months old. And they do have a way of getting into your hearts. Hope your flocks stay healthy and thank you for the kind words.

    Lost a chicken

A sad day for me, I lost a chicken today. She was one of 4 so makes a big difference. Not sure what happened. Was fine this morning when I gave them fresh water and food and this afternoon after collecting eggs she was laying down. Color in her comb was very pale. Brought her in the house and...

How to protect chickens in the winter??

Hi, I live in South Dakota, first year raising chickens. Have 4 barred rock. About 2 weeks ago we had 8 inches of snow, chickens feet were getting red between their toes so moved the coop into my garage. The garage is insulated but no heat. So far it has stayed about 30-35 degrees in there. Will...

layers hating the food, what do I do?

It definitely helps. The store is ordering the crumbles in so have to wait a week so trying to smash the pellets for them to eat this week. I will check crops to make sure. I do give them grit and occasionally oyster shells just to help their digestion and provide the calcium. Just afraid when...

layers hating the food, what do I do?

the change was pretty sudden, ran out of grower and since they were laying just changed over to pellets. They had been eating crumbles and now being served pellets as that is all they sell here. The feed looks and smells fresh. They are pooping like before but not eating except what I...

layers hating the food, what do I do?

My buff rocks hate the layer food, they will not eat it at all. Now this food is the same company that made the chick and the grower feed that they ate. Is all grower food pretty much the same? Not sure if it is the size or shape of the pellets or what but they will not eat it and now their...

At what age can I start adding different things to their diets?

Thank you. I will wait until 10 weeks old before starting a few treats. Know they need the food designed for them. Thanks for the help.

At what age can I start adding different things to their diets?

My Rhode Island Reds are 3 weeks and 4 days old. I have been feeding chick starter and plenty of clean water. I was wondering what I can start adding to their diet as far as veggies, etc and at what age? They eat like little pigs but are growing like weeks and gaining weight. I would like to...
