***Update on Butterball*** She is doing great everyone!! We fed her electrolytes by syringe for a week & a half and then added in watered down chick starter for another week & a half. We put her out in a separate coop and after that third week we stopped feeding her by hand and she started to...
No eating or drinking on her own yet. She has had such a horrible trauma to her head so we decided not to tube feed her. We are getting fluids in by syringe and she is drinking a lot. She is also pooping a little every day so it looks like things are moving. She just opened two eyes yesterday...
Just updating everyone...Butterball has both eyes open today and wandered around a bit. She was much more uppity when I have her water tonight. Her strength is definitely returning!! You can still see how black and blue her right eye is. I think she can see OK, she went in and out of her little...
OK, wow!! I am not sure I could do this. I cringed watching the video. She has had so much trauma to the head; I would be afraid to do the extending, pinching and getting that tube in. Yikes!
We had a big ice and wind storm here and the coop was compromised. The possum got in before we could make the repairs. My husband is just wrecked over this. Everything is secured and double enforced now and believe me, this will NEVER happen again!! Poor girl. Clearly she really wants to live...
Thanks...She is taking in liquids but her nostrils are clogged and mouth breathing so I just give it to her slowly while my husband holds her. I know the electrolytes are just for chickens but I will see what else the feed store has tomorrow so we can get more in her. Everything feels good and...
No worries...my husband would go to any lengths to keep her alive. He feels so guilty about the possum strike so this is his way of dealing with it. He has so much faith in this Butterball!! He has been holding her every night and walking with me as I throw the ball for the dog. I see him...
She seems to have a lot more strength and she cracked both eyes open today. We thought she had lost at least one eye but both seem in tact. She is taking in electrolytes and holds her head more steadily. She is also putting more weight on her feet.
Thank you so much for your support. I will try to get a few pictures tomorrow. I can't see any real wounds, just looks like she was punched in the face a few times. Poor girl!
Thank you so much!! We have been getting lots of electrolytes in her by syringe. She actually opened an eye a little bit tonight and put weight on her feet. You cannot see any real wounds except her left eye is shut, pretty sure she lost that eye and her right eye was shut because of the...
