Just a quick question karlamaria we also are from montana do you use any source of light? We have decided to try our first winter with chickens with no heat but their coop is insulated all the way around with vents.

Not yet but soon for rifle season. I can't wait to get out and about. I drew an antelope permit, antler-less elk permit and an antler less deer permit. I love getting out with my hubby, friends and even my 3 year old daughter gets to go :)

Thanks guys we were just a little unsure they are very pretty that is for sure. No white on them I am sure they are all girls they are all black with red on their necks. They also are around 12 weeks old. These are our first chickens :)

Not sure this is the correct forum for this question but is it normal for a black star pullet to have like a forest green sheen to them and have black combs??? They are really cool looking just a little strange.

How old are they?? We had to place our is the coop for about a week and then they started going in by themselves. We do notice however that when it is really warm out sometimes they will sleep outside under the coop.
