I do collect my eggs daily, and while the eggs sit on my counter until they're cleaned and refrigerated, it's only a max of 3-4 days that they're on the counter - unwashed and in an air conditioned house. I've had this routine for several years, and it was my understanding eggs could sit...
I know it's not the first time... But it's the first time my eggs have tasted funky. That's definitely not in my head. What else could cause that, then?
Hi, guys!!!
I've had a couple very disappointing mornings with nasty tasting eggs. Not nasty like they'd gone bad - but gross tasting. Not the normal yumminess I expect from my girls. The second day I narrowed it down to one of my brown eggs, and I've been trying to figure out what one of my...
Finally in front of the computer... here are pics of the babies!
top view of SLW and Delaware - pretty accurate pic of size difference.
Not quite side-by-side...
all of our new additions to our flock!
It's Macy, Una, Peeps, and Maggie, from left to right.
Thanks for any help you can give!
Hi, guys!
We got a mixed flock of baby chicks that turned 4 weeks old today - they were all supposed to have the same hatch date of 8/15... We do have a silkie, and were expecting to see a size difference between her and the others, but man! Our Delaware chick seems huge compared to our SL...
I've started my flock out at only 3 girls, and can only get up to 6 according to my county's regulations. Chicken math may make that final number hazy but I should be fine no matter what - I got one of the buckets with the 4 nipples on the bottom. Plenty of water for everyone!
Thanks, y'all!!!
They figured it out! I looked out at them this morning and saw each of them drinking from the new bucket. So excited that they'll have that clean water all summer... I'll keep putting in a second one while it's hot, but I'm glad my girls got it!
Thanks, y'all. I wanted them off the nasty-water- filled bowls, but I'd rather change that out daily than lose one of my girls. They're fully hydrated now! I'll be patient with them in learning how to drink from their new waterer.
I'm trying to get my girls to switch over to a bucket nipple waterer - of course I chose today of all days to do it... it's super hot in RVA! Since it's so hot and they still haven't caught on, should I put another water supply in their run? I don't want them to be affected by the heat without...
Thanks - she is being pretty mean. We've put in extra food and water in separate locations, and we're letting them free range as much as we can to give the little girls a break. It's not constant, but Henrietta does push them away from the food and water if she wants to be near it.
Hi, everyone! I'm Leigh, a homeschooling mom in Virginia... who has always talked a big talk about "one day" owning chickens... A friend just called me on it and gave me 3 chickens to start my own little brood. After converting a dog-house into a coop and building my own run, we pick up the...
