Does Anyone Have One Goose For A Pet?

Stevia is an unusual case. At about 4 months she started exhibiting some really bizarre behaviors such as screaming frantically and circling the pen and ramming into the sides hard enough to knock herself out. She would do this many times daily and it didnt seem to matter whether the other...

Does Anyone Have One Goose For A Pet?

Hi Donna. Welcome. I'm in Virginia and have a young adult american buff who was hatched this spring with no eyes. The parents and siblings abandoned her? so " Stevia" was raised in my chick brooder with 4 chicks. She now lives in a large pen surrounded by chickens and geese but if I turn...

GOOSE BREEDING THREAD - for breeding, incubating, hatching and rearing.

Advice time again. My american buffs have successfully raised their 4 goslings into beautiful teenagers but now it's time for those young-uns to be sold. How do I remove them to sell without destroying the parents trust? I raised mom and dad from day 2 along with 8 siblings and when those...

I know how you feel, Karen. My american buff gosling which was born with no eyes has begun to show a lot of neurological signs in the past 3 weeks. I hand raised it with a chicken buddy because its parents tried - and still try - to kill it. They'll hang out around its tractor coop which...

Karen, So sorry for your girl. Know you have pulled a lot of birds thru before but if you're looking for anything else to try I've saved a few of my birds that were injured and totally down by feeding them honey water from a dropper. I give them about 2cc every half hour and if its going...

    Somethings afoot

HELP! One of my 8 week old sebastapols came up gimpy on Saturday. By yesterday it did not want to put any weight on the affected foot. Upon examination it looked normal from the top but the middle joint on the underside of the middle toe had what appeared to be a penny sized raised callous...

GOOSE BREEDING THREAD - for breeding, incubating, hatching and rearing.

Well now I know what was going on when my 2 sebbie hatchlings were constantly having to hike up their wingtips. Just thought it was a learning thing as their first feathers put unfamiliar weight on the tips. Both babies resolved the dilemma on their own - 3 cheers for beginners luck!

What age to let chickens out to forage ?

I have 4 flocks, each with a roo, 3 to 6 hens, a few pullets and several younger teenagers. The smallest yard is 24 x 30. I rotate turnout two groups at a time on our two thirds wooded 3 acres so everyone is out every other day. Turnout time is from mid-afternoon until they put themselves...

    Let's have a gosling hatchalong!

My 2 sebbies are getting their primaries on the wingstips and doing something that i don't remember the am. Buffs doing when they were youngsters. The weight of the new feathers is making it difficult for these two to keep their wings tucked when they walk. Just the last joint keeps slipping...
