Help! My 13 wk old bantam just ate my post earring!

It's as sharp as any normal earring post is. I'm pretty sure it could do some damage. So far she's still good. We're about almost 12 hrs post earring ingestion. How soon would she pass it? I'm worried sick about her!! I'll never have earrings on again when I'm with the chickens!! LeafBlade12345

Help only a rooster and 1 hen left!! What to do?

I don't have any personal experience in this exact situation, but I have understood from others that the mama hen can be quite protective of her chicks and will put the rooster in his place should he bother the chicks or her. The experience I have with introducing young birds to my flock has...

    Strange illness

I have checked for mites and haven't found anything. I thought about others feather picking, but it is so uniform that I find it doubtful unless I have some OCD chickens lol. I do have roosters. She is loved by Roo who has been her man from the beginning. Its very strange really! Thanks for...

    Strange illness

I have searched for a similar thread and can't find anything. My buff brahma hen [2 1/2 yo] is eating normally, drinking normally, poo is normal. She has NO respiratory symptoms at all. However, the black feathers that normally adorn her neck have recently vanished. She is not molting. She...

Want to treat a chicken with horse paste?

Based on the symptoms, probable gape worm long standing. I acquired the hen from someone else who didn't properly care for her. I would prefer not to treat the entire flock (15) as would be the case if I treated the water. And what I've read on the packaging says it treats nearly all worms...

Want to treat a chicken with horse paste?

Does anyone know if I can use Ivermectin paste 1.87% for oral use in horses (apple flavored) to treat a standard size chicken for worms. My vet recommended Ivermectin, but did not clarify the dose or route. Any thoughts?

what breed is this handsome fella?

This guy was a stray chicken that we rescued. He's sweet, but a bit shy. Just curious his breed. Maybe black copper morans?

The 6th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

The only farm auction that include Chickens closed up last year. I haven't heard of another. I drove over 2 hours last summer to go to a poultry swap that turned out to be very small, about 4-5 people with chicks. A bit of a disappointment.

The 6th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Hi Shawnette, Thanks for your reply! I've asked around at the local tractor supply store and I've never known them to have a swap of any sort. However, we have another farm supply store (not as close by) that is not a chain store and may have more info. I've have advertised the roos but not on...
