We only stuck the curtain rod in as a very temporary thing, the coop should be done soon, and they'll have a nice wide roost soon enough, they are doing a great job balancing on the sticks and hopping onto the waterer too. I think they're 6 or 7 weeks old now, should it be pretty obvious to tell...

Cute, what breeds? - I think I have patridge rocks and barred rocks, the one with the white chest is an unknown for now :)

Lots of breed/sex help needed :)

here's a new pic of some of the babies. They are very active now, we have a roost bar 6" off the ground and they flap (or scootch up via the stick ramp) to it easily. Only 1 has a big comb so far, its the black and white. The others are black and grey, brown patterned, and one with a white chest...

here's a recent pic of most of my babies from the farm and ranch store, the black and white one is the only one with a bigger comb, what do you think my chances of that being my only rooster (with a couple bossy hens) might be? They have been flapping up to the temporary roost, its a curtain rod...

We are on week 4ish, but they could be almost 6 weeks old, the big r folks couldn't say exactly how old the chicks were. We could have 4 or 5 cockerels. Im crossing my fingers for 2 though, easier to rehome one than 3! My kids have already told me we won't be eating the chickens after they get...

Hi! Im just east of Fountain CO (directly south of Colo spgs) in Hanover, CO. We just moved here and I have 10 chicks in the brooder. its our first flock, so we went to big R, and might have ended up with more cockerels than I wanted. They have a 90% guarantee of it being female, but the odds...

    Very sandy coop and run

I have very sandy soil, well, let's face it, it's just sand with sage, yucca, grasses, and cactus. How much grit will I need to add to my chickens' diet or will they use the sand? -Lyndsey

Yeah, Big R is a local feed store. They had a poster of possible breeds (50 breeds) but I couldn't even guess what they were.

    Hello!

My name is Lyndsey. My husband and I just bought 35+ acres of hilltop plains in southeastern colorado (just south of smackdab in the middle). We have 10 pullets (hopefully) of unknown breed- Big R and their 'assorted chicks in bins' . I'll eventually learn what breeds they are (and if they are...
