We only stuck the curtain rod in as a very temporary thing, the coop should be done soon, and they'll have a nice wide roost soon enough, they are doing a great job balancing on the sticks and hopping onto the waterer too. I think they're 6 or 7 weeks old now, should it be pretty obvious to tell...

here's a new pic of some of the babies. They are very active now, we have a roost bar 6" off the ground and they flap (or scootch up via the stick ramp) to it easily. I have very sandy soil, well, let's face it, it's just sand with sage, yucca, grasses, and cactus. How much grit will I need to add to my chickens' diet or will they use the sand? -Lyndsey

Yeah, Big R is a local feed store. They had a poster of possible breeds (50 breeds) but I couldn't even guess what they were.
