Shawna89, thanks... I have contacted them before and if I recall, they don't keep blondes anymore. I think they just leave the photos up for reference.
I have also had no luck with legg's. So, looking for other sources.. Thanks..
Hi dc3085, thanks for the reply. 100% not Mexican speckled. I have the proper name, blonde bobwhites which are different than Mexican speckled, completely. They look pretty much nothing a like. They were at one time not hard to find in the US, but as of late seems nearly impoosible. Some...
Anyone out there have blonde bobwhites? They seem to have gone the way of the Mohicans over the years? I would be interested in a trio or even a pair. Or even just a lead at this point. Help!
Hi, I would be very careful about culling at 5 weeks or even 8 weeks. I split my birds up about 4/5 weeks based on a couple of factors (size being the biggest one), but without fail you are always going miss one as a pullet or a cockeral. Without some indication of sex, you are just guessing...
I will try to get some better photos of him today and post them. Javas are interesting, and when birds like this guy come out of no where, well it makes it fun to have them.
JWEBB, nope is his just right at 26/27 weeks old. So far I have had little comment on him. I did notice he is getting some copper (straw, red whatever you call it at this point) on the saddle and wings now too. So, it is interesting for sure. The hens from that same group are black and look...

Background - I ordered 30 chicks from Garfield last fall. There was a single white chick in the batch and there did not appear to be any auburn in the group; however, now @ 26 weeks this week one of the roos is showing copper.
Any thoughts...
If I have a broody to foster chicks too, I do it every time! Matter of fact, that is how we got into the silkie fowl to start with because I got sick of tending to, checking on, and doctoring chicks. I generally hatch 90 to 95% of the eggs in the bator. Give the little silkie hen a egg, or...
We have had nights down in the middle 20s here. As long as you keep them dry and they have a place to stay dry and out of the wind, they should thrive with the cold. Matter of fact, I worry more about my birds in July and Aug when it is over 100 for 6 to 8 hours and humidity is high.
I have...
I agree... Here is a pic of a silkie hen with 19 Basque hen chicks she fostered for me. Yep, you read that right, 19. She did a great job!!!
I think they only thing you have to worry about is coop access. I have not general built my "large" breed coops with silkie fowl in mind. So, make...
