What are the symptoms/treatment for sour crop? I have a two year old California White named Jan. she has seemed fine but today when I picked her up she felt quite thin and when I was palpating her crop it feels bloated, squishy and quite large. While I was palpating it yellow liquid started...
When one of my girls started molting there was no doubt-the yard looked like it had snowed in June, there were so many feathers on the ground! Also the feathers come out very easily by the handful.
Our ameracauna Betsy talks constantly, she is definitely the biggest complainer! "It's too hot", "I have to lay an egg!" and "I just laid an egg!" are her most frequently mentioned. She is a rare breed indeed although she looks exactly like Kit!!!
My girls LOVE cooked oatmeal (I always make extra so they can have some), dried meal worms, watermelon, cantaloupe, corn on the cob, black oil sunflower seeds, peaches, mint leaves, grapes, yogurt and shredded cheese.
OK. I have 12 girls, three of which are California Whites (Marcia, Jan and Cindy). All of the chickens, save for one, lay lovely, large eggs in the morning and afternoon. A couple of months ago, I accidentally left the coop door open after putting the girls to bed. About 9pm I was startled to...
Hi y'all! I live within Tucson city limits and my youngest just turned out to be a rooster, which is a no-no in town because of the noise. I just adore him and would like him to go to a nice home and not get sent to "freezer camp." He is a four month old Polish, terribly handsome and already...
This morning I heard what sounded like a strangled little crow coming repeatedly from my 3 month old Polish hen Maude. Are those saddle feathers I see? I need an expert to tell me that I am wrong, this is a hen. Please and thank you!
I have an Ameracauna named Betsy. She is about seven months old. She started laying beautiful blue eggs in August. She is acting totally normal, eating, foraging, activity level, etc. However, she hasn't laid an egg since around 10-24. I have looked around the yard to see if she has a secret...
Come on, it's ok, they are a little bit ugly. They have very tiny almost non-existent combs. They're 5 months old. I thought Buckeyes too but I read somewhere these days they were pretty rare.
Eve and Eve are five months old. Sold to me at 2 days old as Buff Orpingtons. They are obviously not. Medium sized, flighty, late to mature. They are also super ugly. To me they look like an RIR cross. Any thoughts?
