Expectations are high for 1st grade too! Practice with your child over the summer using sight words like "the and he she it is was I you we , lots of 1-3 letter words and everyday words etc...make it fun! Good Luck.......
When you go to the meeting look like you are prepared and have done lots of research...which I am sure will will do anyway, but let them know it by bringing all your research in with you.... and don't let them intimidate you! Go in confidant and with the mindset that you know they are WRONG...
Whatever you do don't let the school tell you that your kid has "ADD" it's B_ll Sh_t just a reason to medicate and keep the kids all in the same "zone" Not everyone learns at the same pace/speed or in the same way.....unless they are medicated to behave like robots which would make it so much...
