    Eggtopsy: What happened to my egg? {Graphic Pictures}

I just did an eggtopsy, it was only day 22 but I had not seen movement in this one for a few days, and the first egg hatched sat morning (2 days ago). Also when candled it seemed to move only when I turned the egg... sure enough when I opened it there was extra liquid behind the membrane that...

What is the ideal humidity for hatching in an incubator?

Thanks, going on day 22 I guess, this one being early threw me off! I feel like the others should be hatching, but we had a couple temp drops, so could be off a couple days...

    Hands on hatching and help

Really good article! I am definitely on the "meddler" side, lol. That's actually what I ended up doing, putting a sponge in, for these other ones, we were out for the day, I freaked when I got home and it was in there! I thought the sides of the container were high enough, but it must have...

    Hands on hatching and help

I am a newbie, obviously, but I find it just amazing being able to candle them, its like seeing into a womb, watching them twist and turn around, its such a miracle. :) But I gotta get onto perfect temp and humidity and all that if I am going to hatch these little miracles, lol, I have tried...

What is the ideal humidity for hatching in an incubator?

So I figured out why I was having such a hard time with my humidity! The new hygrometer I just got, that was supposed to be ready out of the box, was 15 % off, I salt tested before lockdown, and it was reading 60% instead of 75%! So now I have had 1 chick hatch early (Sat morning) and I am...

    Hands on hatching and help

Very good answer, I'm definitely a "newbie" but have done lots of research, and because of that was able to save a both a duck from a previous hatch and a chick with my last hatch due to the membrane drying out... however I had read when to help and when to stop, and made sure to be very careful...

    Hands on hatching and help

Okay good to hear it!, I was reading several other posts on BYC and felt like that really couldn't be true! No pips so I think we are good :) Okay I won't float test, I haven't before, so wasn't sure! thanks, I will give it a bit more time and try to sit on my hands! lol

    Hands on hatching and help

Right, and I wouldn't be concerned on day 21, except the fact there has been no movement... with my last hatch, even though 4 didn't make it out and were dried up, there was plenty of egg rocking and rolling right up until the end :/ I have it at 70% because our heat in the house is really...

    Hands on hatching and help

This is my second hatch, and with the first I had one chick survive, which I had to help out, humidity was not getting high enough... anyways with this hatch I have had the humidity up to 70% and I had an early hatcher that pipped Friday night and hatched yesterday morning... now the other 4...

How do you raise humidity in lockdown? Can't get mine high enough

So I know this is an old post, but thought I would try anyways... I am on lockdown, and having a hard time getting my humidity above 50%... it's a homemade incubator, I have had a tray in the bottom (not sure how much its helping) and a small plastic container hanging on the side through until...

What is the ideal humidity for hatching in an incubator?

I was able to hang a liitle container on the side, and humidity is at 33% - 34% now :)

What is the ideal humidity for hatching in an incubator?

Ok... well the problem with adding another tray, is that the tray that turns the eggs has to slide back and forth and there isn't enough space, important to add we have had successful hatches with this incubator...but I moved it from my parents house to mine, where I think we have less humidity...

What is the ideal humidity for hatching in an incubator?

This is my set up...water tray is under with an opening at the front...

What is the ideal humidity for hatching in an incubator?

It is a homemade incubator, there is a large tray in the bottom with water, but with only that my humidity is only in the high teens and 20s, so I have been using a washcloth to keep it up... I think it is drying because I have a fan in there (a computer fan) but on lockdown I will take it out...

What is the ideal humidity for hatching in an incubator?

I would say its averaging around 35%, hard to keep consistent, it sometimes drops to the high 20s, but when I first add a wet washcloth it starts at about 44... quickly drops though.
