Very good answer, I'm definitely a "newbie" but have done lots of research, and because of that was able to save a both a duck from a previous hatch and a chick with my last hatch due to the membrane drying out... however I had read when to help and when to stop, and made sure to be very careful...

This is my second hatch, and with the first I had one chick survive, which I had to help out, humidity was not getting high enough... anyways with this hatch I have had the humidity up to 70% and I had an early hatcher that pipped Friday night and hatched yesterday morning... now the other 4...

So I know this is an old post, but thought I would try anyways... I am on lockdown, and having a hard time getting my humidity above 50%... it's a homemade incubator, I have had a tray in the bottom (not sure how much its helping) and a small plastic container hanging on the side through until...

I was able to hang a liitle container on the side, and humidity is at 33% - 34% now :)

Ok... well the problem with adding another tray, is that the tray that turns the eggs has to slide back and forth and there isn't enough space, important to add we have had successful hatches with this incubator...but I moved it from my parents house to mine, where I think we have less humidity...

This is my set up...water tray is under with an opening at the front...

It is a homemade incubator, there is a large tray in the bottom with water, but with only that my humidity is only in the high teens and 20s, so I have been using a washcloth to keep it up... I think it is drying because I have a fan in there (a computer fan) but on lockdown I will take it out...

I would say its averaging around 35%, hard to keep consistent, it sometimes drops to the high 20s, but when I first add a wet washcloth it starts at about 44... quickly drops though.
