    Vent still bleeding after prolapse

Tonks is no longer drippy, bloody or having a messy bum. She hasn’t laid an egg yet, but is happily out with the flock chickening around. She’s regained her wild ways so I haven’t recaught her lately to get a weight, but she looks good and is eating/drinking so I’m hopeful. Real test is when...

3 chicks hatched by broody hen

Chicks are one week today and all is well. Mama encouraged them to jump from the house down into the run today. They foraged and dug for hours down there while the rest of the flock looked on mildly as they passed through on their way to lay. I later found mama and babies out in the yard...

3 chicks hatched by broody hen

One of my 13 month-old Black Australorp girls went hard core broody in early April and since I couldn’t break her, I decided to give her all the eggs laid on Saturday, May 17. She sat tight on 8 eggs but since she insisted on brooding in the favorite nest box, eggs were added daily. The...

    Vent still bleeding after prolapse

What would have ruptured? An egg or some of her parts? She’s definitely declined today. If she’s worse tomorrow, I’ll cull her so she doesn’t suffer. I’ve been treating her for two weeks now. She was better but now she’s not :(

    Vent still bleeding after prolapse

Got her inside for some syringe fluids with nutridrench. What else can I try for this poor girl?

    Vent still bleeding after prolapse

Tony’s is doing poorly this evening. Panting, laying on her side, white slimy stuff dripping, won’t eat. I’m currently giving her a warm epsom soak, then will lubricate a gloved hand to check for stuck or malformed egg. Any other suggestions?

    Vent still bleeding after prolapse

Thank you. She hasn’t laid an egg in about a week and has normal poops. Still a small amount of blood from the vent. I’ve seen her prolapse but by the time I get gloved and catch her, she’s got it back in herself. I assume that’s good news, but wish she weren’t prolapsing. She’s lost a good...

    Hen with bloody cloaca

I don’t believe she was egg bound, but she was laying poor quality eggs. A few hours after I posted this, I found Her prolapsed. She prolapsed for a few days, which I’ve been treating and she hasn’t again in over 24 hours. She is still bleeding some tho.

    Vent still bleeding after prolapse

My 1-year old EE, Tonks, has had some vent issues lately. I posted for help on another thread (link below), which includes more details. https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/hen-with-bloody-cloaca.1464191/#post-24387733 Details: She prolapsed a few days ago and I’ve been treating it...

    Hen with bloody cloaca

She is still separated from the flock. Warm bath with epsom salt—what would the proper ratio of Epsom salts to water be? And put coconut oil where?

    Hen with bloody cloaca

Hello chicken experts! I’ve been finding broken eggs in the laying boxes and a few out in the yard for a few weeks now. The egg always seemed normal, but the shell remains were very thin. I figured out it was my one year old Easter Egger hen, Tonks, when I found her carrying eggs out of the...

    Worms?

No tapeworm segments in the morning poops. I inspected carefully, and did see a couple more long worms. They are. It segmented tapeworms, definitely more round. The pic I attached yesterday was found attached to frozen poop and had been dropped onto PDZ so perhaps it’s a flat, dried roundworm...

Why Do You Use Deep Bedding/Why Do You NOT Use Deep Bedding?

Central Texas chicken keeper. I use deep bedding up in the coop portion and maybe deep litter in the open run portion. You can be the judge. The elevated coop has a plywood floor covered with linoleum squares. In hindsight, I think these are unnecessary but I was concerned about moisture...

    Worms?

Thanks so much! I haven’t seen any rice like pieces—I’m more familiar with those bc we foster kittens and they often have tapeworm. These look a bit different to me. I think I’ll treat for Roundworms first and see if that solves their issues. Appreciate the input!

    Worms?

Thank you so much! I’ll pick some up in the morning. Couple of follow up Qs...Do we need to not eat their eggs for a period of time after? Also, I have dogs that eat the chicken poop like candy—I suppose I best get them dewormed, too? Last, I use deep litter method but sounds like the eggs...
