Crust Inside Vent - How to Clean

After a month and a week of vet visits and nightly attempts to help her; we decided to have the vet euthanize her. The vet agreed her situation would only worsen in the coming days and weeks and I did not want her to suffer. Miss seeing her already.

Crust Inside Vent - How to Clean

I’m sorry to hear. This has been an absolute pain. She’s been to the vet twice. Vet says they don’t see anything anymore. All bacteria is gone and she has passed all physical examination and the second fecal tests for flock and her have all been negative for any parasites, yeast etc. I’m going...

Crust Inside Vent - How to Clean

They ran a lot of tests. We were there for 5 hours. Vet paperwork said slight bacterial infection. Not a lot of yeast. That was on the 24th. I’m afraid the antibiotic killed all the good bacteria and made the yeast worse. No prolapse. I was very gentle trying to get the crust off. I’ve ordered...

Crust Inside Vent - How to Clean

Just ordered some sterile ones and some coconut oil. It’s really on there and it’s uncomfortable for her getting it loose but I got a bunch out. Poor thing.

Crust Inside Vent - How to Clean

I am currently working on a gleet issue. She has a build up of crust inside the vent. She was at the vet on the 24th. They gave her Clavamox and negated all the good bacteria work I had done for 4 days. Said she had a bacterial infection. She’s getting better but tonight while cleaning; I...

Switching Feed - LOCAL - Thoughts On This Ingredient List?

I’ll look into their starter. Thanks! Thanks for that. I’m just worried about the roosters calcium intake. Some say “it’s fine” vet says too much is a risk for him.

Switching Feed - LOCAL - Thoughts On This Ingredient List?

That’s what I’m doing now as well. I use the poultrydvm site. Thought maybe someone was familiar enough with feed mills to have an idea based on the ingredients list. Good reviews I’m seeing and I know they've been doing this for generations and they’re known for quality livestock feed. All...

Switching Feed - LOCAL - Thoughts On This Ingredient List?

I asked and they said they didn’t have it listed on there

Switching Feed - LOCAL - Thoughts On This Ingredient List?

Nutrena Layer feed. Previous rooster passed while on it. No necropsy. No symptoms other than lethargic in AM. Was new to chickens and wasn’t aware of the danger. Person I bought them from said “it would be fine” 6 months later it was not fine. Not sure if related. Didn’t have anyone to do a...

Switching Feed - LOCAL - Thoughts On This Ingredient List?

I don’t want to see anyone bashing each other about “conspiracy theories”. So; don’t. I’m aware of all that’s going around but I’m switching feeds because of what I am seeing. Now that that’s out of the way; since I’ve switched to Purina All Flock; I have noticed a substantial decline in the...

Is this vent gleet or something else? Looks a little like some other pics I’ve seen here but not completely.

She ate some mash tonight and was lively. That makes me happy. Still drainage of urates. Cleaned it and got the crusty stuff out of the vent as much as I could. Applied the cream, gave her a second dose orally. Saw her poop and it was bigger and formed. So hopefully rounding a corner here...

Is this vent gleet or something else? Looks a little like some other pics I’ve seen here but not completely.

Just got home from work. She’s up and active. The runny poop drops have hardened a little but are still small; size of a penny. Her vent isn’t red but still seems to be inflamed a little. I’ll clean it again tonight. I’ve been applying the miconazole there for two weeks, once a day. I’m afraid...

Is this vent gleet or something else? Looks a little like some other pics I’ve seen here but not completely.

Had someone go and check her. She's up and walking around with her head up so not dire yet. I am going to make sure she's drinking water when I get home. I will soften some food and see if she'll eat it. I'll have someone hold her while I investigate the vent area again. My even stick my finger...

This hen has been my sidekick since she came a year ago. She gets up on my shoulder and is always the first one to come see me. I am going to be very, very upset. She is the one on my arm in the picture on my profile.
