Americana + Welsummer Mix - Pullet or Cockerel?

I agree with the others that you have a lovely little cockerel. I believe I see saddle feathers starting to drop down.

    Hen or roo?

I lean towards cockerel at this point too...very red comb and I think I'm seeing saddle feathers.

Blue Wheaton Ameraucana or EE cockerel?

Hi, everyone. I purchased some fertilize eggs this year from an Ameraucana breeder (Blue Wheaten) but she also threw in a few EE eggs. My question...is my handsome, super sweet and gentle (20-week old) cockerel a blue wheaten Ameraucana or an EE? Doesn't really matter either way...

Help needed with sexing of my EE chicks

Hi Everyone, I’m hoping you can assist with sexing these chicks. There are two breeds in the group...Americaunas and what should be Easter Eggers but may end up just being a Fibro mix (Americauna hen x Ayam Cemani roo—all hatched from blue eggs). I think I have one cockerel and four pullets but...

Review by '' on item 'Pullet-Shut Automatic Chicken Door Chickendoors.com'

I'm not handy with tools but even I could install this door! It's incredibly easy and the videos walk you through it step by step. It's designed to open to the left or right (depending on which way you install it) but I installed it to open to the top so that when it is open, it behaves like...

I'm not familiar with a place to buy pullets in Nova Scotia…I know that Frey's Hatchery in Ontario supplies Feed stores and Farm supply stores in Ontario. Frey's likes people to place their order at the feed store and pick up the pullets there. Perhaps you can do the same in NS? Good luck

You can also look on kijiji. I found a local farmer on kijiji who sold me my laying hens. Good luck! :)

Why and how do chickens purr?

I'm so glad that someone posted on this topic. I am new to raising chickens. I was watching one of my chickens take a dust bath today. She was rolling around and purring like crazy. I'd never heard that sound before. It was nice to see her feeling so happy.

Did you try burnbrae farms to see if they would sell off some of their year old chickens that they are replacing with younger hens? I'm not sure if they do it or not…couldn't find anything on their site. Good luck! :)

HI Everyone, I'm new and I'm from Ontario (relatively near Ottawa). This is my first time keeping chickens. I purchased some laying hens (2 partridge coloured americaunas, 1 black americauna mix, 1 barred rock, 1 leghorn and two rhode island reds). It's been an adventure building the coop and...
