I may know the answer to this question but I could hear a chick in an egg earlier and it was beginning to hatch earlier. I had to leave but when I came back, I found chick next to water bowl that I had put in for the momma hen and it was wet and the stomach is squishy and the chick is weak but...
I have some broody hens that don't eat that much. I have the layer pellets down for the others to eat but should feed her something else since that food encourages laying? Can I give her treats, bread, cheese, ?? Should I give her a dose of Nutri-Drench for energy? What is that stuff mainly...
OK I did it and boy was that wierd but I didn't feel anything solid. It just felt mushy and warm. Would it be REAL OBVIOUS? I mean she's not broody like a couple of other hens that aren't laying but they are setting. My grandmother said she might have a nest outside somewhere but she goes in at...
I noticed that I was short an egg for a while and at first thought that maybe a couple of hens were only having one every other day but I decided to isolate EACH hen to check out the situation and realized a certain hen has not laid an egg for a few days. I just recently had a Blue & Gold Macaw...

I've also heard to isolate or put in "jail" the offender!
But about the bloody egg.....I had an egg w/ blood on it a couple of days in a row so when I checked out my hens and found one w/ blood clotting and infection in cloaca, I took her to vet and he gave me some anti-biotics to give...

I will post some pics later but I'm sure that IS what it is but I'm just confused why ALL the birds don't have them? I didn't see any signs of mites for a long time but the other day I think I saw one little white bug and one little grayish bug so I went crazy w/ the DE! I haven't used it in a...
Yeah, I also liked it when it got my other broody hen off the nest and she seemed happy being a momma again. It's like they "need" to be a momma sometimes and when I wouldn't let her hatch her own eggs, she would get mad at me when I took them and I just felt sorry for her.
So, since it worked...
Some of my chickens have nice smooth legs and others look like they are shedding their skin of the legs like a snake! What should I do for them? Are they lacking something in their diets or do I need to rub lotion on their legs???? I feel sorry for them.
