Thanks! That was what I was considering to do. I just wanted to hear it from someone else. You know, a little reassurance. They adults will only be on the starter/grower for a short time, since the babies will be 20 weeks on around the 18th of October, and I am really not planning on...
I have 3 groups of chickens, they are divided by age. One is 1+ years old and is eating layer pellets, one group is 6 weeks old and eating starter/grower crumbles, and one group that is 3 1/2 weeks old and also eating starter/grower crumbles. How young can I start my young birds on layer feed...
That is Wonky, she has been that way since she was little. She is a year old now. She does fine with it, really. It was not broken, when the problem started I tried to correct it, but nothing worked. She was able to use it for a while, but then it just drew up like it is now. She gets...
They will be 5 weeks old on the 12th. They have moved out into their own special enclosure inside the hen house. That way the big girls get used to seeing them around. It will be a few months before I try to let them all hang out together, though. Don't want to risk any babies getting injured.
Hey all, I am in Harrison County! I have 10 adult hens and 6 18 day old polish chicks. I wanted to get my chicks out today and let them play in the playpen, lol, but it has just been too cool! Anyone else ready for some warm weather and sunshine?
I had intended to do one at 7 days old, and continue one a week until they are too hard to get to stay still, but day 7 eluded me for some reason, lol.
On May 9th I got my birthday present to me from me! My 6 Polish chicks arrived in the mail from My Pet Chicken. There was a cuteness overload, that is for sure. I actually had 12 arrive because I went in with a friend who also got 6 of the chicks. We were very excited that we each got at...
As I posted in another post, I took the first step into the renno of my coop. I bought these nest boxes:
I am excited because the will take up less space then my others, and I think should be easier to clean since the birds can't get on top of them. My next step it so build the...
I do not want to bother my husband with building new nest boxes. When I mentioned to him I wanted new ones he got his feelings hurt because he built the others. :( So I bought these today and I am going to see if I can get my dad to come help me install them after they come in. Not sure if...
My Grace was a Norwegian Jaerhon. She was an amazing hen! I has so much fun with her, and she would always let me hold her, and came to the door of the run to meet me every time I went up to the coop. What an awesome little chicken!!!! Miss her very much. She has been gone for several years...
As mentioned in another thread, I am planning on doing some upgrading to my coop and run. I want to remove the old nest boxes and replace them with new ones. Is there anything I need to do to ensure the girls won't be too confused about the change and know what the new boxes are for? I have a...
I am probably going to paint it the cream color that it already is, just freshen it up. I may had a little brown trim around the windows. I don't know what a chicken safe paint would be, but I think what is on it is just an exterior house paint. I will most likely paint it while they are...
