From beautiful Kiowa, Colorado, we are the critter loving Reyna family. I'm mom, Jenelle, my husband is Tim, and our daughters Annabella Rose-10 years old, and Gabriella Raven-4 years old.
We absolutely love our chickens, and I believe I am becoming addicted to them. We purchased our first...
two of my chickens (black australorp and black star) have black tips on their combs and black spots on their waddles. One, I noticed, also has like tiny white balls, almost like eggs around her neck...
what is this? should I dust with DE?
I have this hen who has been setting on her eggs for months, and they just won't hatch! They are fertile, but she kicks them out about a week too soon to set on the other girls fresh eggs, so they never hatch. What should I do with her?
My chicks do the same thing, I just force my love on them. I'm guessing they go screaming away from my girls though, they would sleep with those boogers if they could! Mine are never friendly until they are older. Can't wait to see about the yogurt - I've been wondering that for a while...

I have a hen who is setting (yay!), and the others seem to be involved in protecting her from me, but they have also stopped laying, is this normal? We have had blizzard-like conditions lately too, but I didn't know if all would stop laying when one is setting?
I have had chickens for a year now, and I think my hen is actually setting! The girls all guard the box that she is setting in, and I'm kinda freakin' out! Will I be a chick mama? I can't wait! Is this really gonna happen?
All you need to do is sprinkle some Diatomaceous Earth around where the chickens live, and it will kill the mites, along with other pests...easy as that!!
