    Fat Meat Bird or Sick

Looking for info; This evening found a freedom ranger broiler (10.5 weeks old). That can't get up and is off balance. Seems to be leaning backwards towards it "Middle of Hock Joint". The hock joint seems to be a bit worn from sitting/laying on it. Could this be fat and off balanced or Mareks...

    Lethargic Pullet + Watery Poo + Won't Wake Up + Can't Stand Up...Please Help.

Uhm...if the bird is skin and bone and its been "weeks" then you should put it down. Or take it to get euthanized. Good god, think of how the bird feels. If a bird is sick do something about it. Dont wait weeks.

    Scoop for sand bedding

Hello, Questions for the sandy coop people. What size holes or spacing does the sand scoop need to have? Heard from chicken chik 1/2" is too much. Thinking .25" would be better. I am going to weld up my own heavy duty scoop. Plan is to drill a bunch of small holes in it for the sand to fall...

Frost bitten feet healed. Now what?

So I got a young cockrel this past winter (dec?). He was supposed to be a full size ameraucana. He turned out to be a bantam ameraucana mix. Pretty much after we got him we noticed he was limping/acting odd. Shortly after figured out he had bad frostbite. He spent the better part of three...

    Rouen Duck thread

Been reading about the differences between Rouens and Mallards. I think I have mallards. Wondering; the "mallards" in question are almost half the size of my papered cayuga ducks. They are much much quieter than my cayuga ducks. They can also fly pretty well, take off and conduct turns...

    Special feed before slaughter?

Have never processed a duck before. All I know is they have lots more feathers. Wondering if there is a special diet people use to give the ducks a last "push" to gain a little extra fat or perhaps better taste. I've heard duck mean is very gamey and some say not at all. Exited to try it so...

    Should I trim this beak?

Have a hen here that I think may need a small beak trim. It curves quite a bit past the lower beak part. Also the tip is thin and almost see through. What are your experiences with such a matter? Do you trim beaks like this or just let them go? Do you think it makes it harder to eat? Also, the...

What is this on the feet? (PICs)

Wow, brought home 7 rescue chickens. 1 hen died 10 min after getting home. Look at the pics, tell me what you think this looks like... Could this be from dogs or is this frostbite? Toes are swollen. All hens are light and skinny. Crops and waddles are pale and off white color...

    Chickens and paintballs?

Indeed. Like parents like kids! I think the hen is loosing her feathers because she has been laying like crazy. And sitting on her eggs. She sits on other hen's eggs when I take hers out. So perhaps she though it was a better way to keep them warm. I will keep checking. I did not even think...

    Chickens and paintballs?

I also noticed this today on my favorite bantie hen. Shes the best layer of all my golden laced cochins. All her bottom feathers are gone. And she has three spots on her under side that look weird. Two look like a dark blue ish blood blister. Or some kind of boil type thing. They are not...

    Chickens and paintballs?

Right! I totally agree with you on everything. It's the like father like son. The dad is a smug handle bar mustache douche. Kids are the same little brats. I would fence it in but the property is not ours. It's a temporary rental. And the owner has only fenced in half the property. Like a big L...

    Crazy protrusion from egg?

That "thing" spirals out and is very 3 dimensional. Almost like an umbilical cord. What is it? Anyone have something like this?

    Chickens and paintballs?

Thanks for all your tips! A state trooper is supposed to talk to the neighbors, but it sound like they cant do much. I noticed a good amount of blueish and greenish poop today. Also, the chickens didn't seem to eat as much. LOTs of food leftover in their primary feeding bowls. Usually, very...
