Help- Hurt 6 month old hen

Hi. That does look like it could have been caused by a spur. There are many ways to take the Spurs off...I've personally used the hot potato method. It worked great, and it never seems to bother my boys while I do it. As far as the wound...I would slather NuStock on it and get her into a chicken...

    Leg mites???-Updated

I use NuStock for many things. One of the best uses for it, is for leg mites. It is an organic salve made for deep wounds. All it is is sulfur, mineral oil and pine tar. The sulfur is both antibiotic and anti fungal. It kills the mites by suffocating them, but also keeps bacteria and fungal...

    Leg mites??????

Hi Caleb. I agree that, at this point it doesn't look like mites. But sooner or later, you will get them. It's just part of having chickens. I had a rescue red sex link, she has always been my favorite...and she had them bad! Get some NuStock and have it on hand. I don't work for them or...

    Treating wounds

I know I'm late with this advice. But get a hold of some NuStock. Fabulous stuff! I'm never without it. It is made as a deep wound salve. It's antibacterial and anti fungal. It's just made of sulfur, pine tar and mineral oil. I had a dog attack one of my hens that flew INTO the dog lot...dumb...

    Leg mites????

I use NuStock for leg mites. Slather it all the way to the top of the leg, to the feathers. Once is usually enough. I also had a rescue red sex link. She was my favorite. She had leg mites really bad. I had to treat her twice with the NuStock . NuStock is just sulfur, pine tar and mineral oil...

    revolution ..yay!!

It is made as a deep wound salve. It's thick, and stays where you put it. I use it on wounds, cuts, infected areas, you name it. I've used it where my dog got a hold of one of my chickens. She had a deep gash, you could see tendons..and I slathered that in the wound. Put her in a crate, gave...

    revolution ..yay!!

Hi! I use NuStock for leg mites, injuries, you name it. It's amazing stuff! Use gloves, because your hands will smell like sulfur for days. Rub it all the way up the leg, covering it all with the cream. Usually once is enough. NuStock is just sulfur, pine tar and mineral oil...I'm never without...

Barnevelder breeders lets work together and improve the breed

Thanks Trisha. I figured she was a splash. But when it was described with yellow feathers at times...it had me wondering. Both her parents are blue. With two roosters, one blue and one black...I got some black pullets, blues, and one splash. Genetics is interesting and confusing, that's for sure!

Barnevelder breeders lets work together and improve the breed

She's beautiful! Not a lot of pattern on her back yet...but she only five months old. She's getting more pattern on her chest and sides. Her comb is true and her legs are yellow. I don't know who she came from. All my pullets are blue. One rooster is blue and the other black. That's why I wanted...

Barnevelder breeders lets work together and improve the breed

I have a beautiful white Barnie pullet. No yellow anywhere. I didn't realize they were rare. I'll try and get pics today. I'm just not good at getting them on this website. So, if someone can tell me again, how to get from my iPad to here, that would be great. Do you want pics of someone holding...

Barnevelder breeders lets work together and improve the breed

Hi all. I was wondering...I have four 18 month old laying hens, blue. Two young pullets, black and splash...my four layers are having a huge molt! It looks like a down pillow exploded in the runs and coops. My question...do your hens just QUIT laying while they molt? I have no eggs coming, all...

    cutest chicken names!

I only have a few names for my 27 chickens. My grandaughter named some, but I can't remember what she calls them while she's here...it changes constantly! I name by personality and breed...sort of. Here's a few: Henry for my Lemon Cuckoo Orp..of English lineage. He's with three hens..comes from...

    Another eye problem

My girl looked like that...keep treating her, you don't have anything to lose. I didn't inject as often, can be hard on them, I gave orally after two days, up the dose to 1cc. I did 1cc for ten days..then reduced it down. It seemed to take forever for her to get better...keep treating her. I'm...

    Another eye problem

When my girl got so sick...I had nothing to lose. So, I dosed her at 1cc every day orally, for almost two weeks. I gave her injections for two days, then orally after that. After a week, she wasn't getting better, so I also put tetracycline in her water...in case the Tylan didn't get it. She's...
