This looks like the same breed. I just got these 2 today. The guy thinks they are cocks but they are skidish and dont fight. Any idea on exact breed and whether pullet or cock?
They will tip fwd a bit but they don't seem to have that issue. They must step over and in them. No cracked eggs yet. I'm up to 5ish a day from 9 girls
I have a flip open lid on the back so if I don't want to open the coop, very rare, I can get the eggs still. Found cat litter boxes that fit so I could change out hay but they keep it cleanow and I haven't had to change it out yet.
Can you use scratch grains as a winter supplement? My girls love it and I'm afraid if I had a second feeder with it they wouldn't eat the layer crumbles.
Is a roof vent and vent holes under the overhang enough ventilation, you think? I was planning on covering all my wire with thick plastic...
I used wood shavings at first then got the idea of adding corn husks from a couple I met at Rural King. I add some of the husks ever few weeks and left what shavings I had in there and turn it over every few days or so and it works great. I throw some scratch grains down and the girls move it...
Most of the rain we get comes from the west, to the left, or south west. Butni have a big maple tree that blocks most rain.
I was thinking of layering plastic on the inside and outside for the winter. That would insulate a bit but mostly cut down on wind.
