    Lockdown finally in 2days.....

The first hatch is very exciting. Here are a couple pointers, however, I have only done incubation for a little over a year now. The inconsistencies in the temp and humidity gauges can cause bad hatch rates because incubator will sometimes measure humidity level higher than it actually is. If...

New to quail first time hatcher

*Funny thought about the male call. I notice I can put all my females together in large pen and none will fight each other but if I include a male, chaos arises. So, I bring a few females to the male's coop when I want to incubate eggs, and they stay fertile for two weeks to a month, and can...

New to quail first time hatcher

That is great! I am so happy you did not give up on them! Note, I forgot to ask what type of quail you have, and now thinking back on my first experience as a quail owner, I'm thinking you might not have coturnix ( those are the only quail that hatch in 16 to 18 days while the others take 21...

    Check out my Chickens

What age are they? You could put them in coop during the day for a few days to see how they adjust, and if they are roosting near sunset, I'd leave them in there. It also depends how many you have to know if they can create enough warmth. If I know it is windy or colder than usual, I zip strip a...

    Ducks and Chickens Breed/Gender Questions

Rooster: I went to the feed store about a week ago and this rooster, which I'm going to call Olaff, was in a cage looking very lonely. The worker stated the owner dropped it off because she was told it was a rooster, and thus could not keep it in town. I brought it home thinking it was an Easter...

    Turkey Questions

That is good to know about the lifespan. Since kiddos are having great time interacting with them, our once future thanksgiving dinner, will probably become permanent family pets.

    Turkey Questions

Is identifying a turkey as 'heritage breed' like identifying a hound or lab retriever as a 'hunting breed'? These two are still bronzed turkey? Pardon if silly question.
