I just love this breed and have been looking for just a couple of buff orpington pullet chicks for a couple months with no luck. I'm in Pueblo,Colorado. Anyone have any suggestions for me?

Which breeds did you wish you got?

I have been wishing and hoping for a buff orpington but have had no luck. I'd love to get a few of them as chicks and raise them. But alas, no luck finding them in my area!

    Guess the breed-Chicken

I'm not sure what breed this is myself. She's probably a mix. Does anyone have any guesses?

How cold is TOO cold for a chicken?

My 4 chickens have a 7 by 9 ft coop covered with heavy clear plastic and ventilated. In a few nights the weather is supposed to turn ugly here in Pueblo CO with a low of -14 degrees ferenheit! They've survived nights that get down to 0 but it hasn't gotten any lower than that yet. I'm wondering...

    Good food - bad food

Just thought I'd update on the red shouldered bug issue. Turns out the chickens must not like how they taste because they leave them alone! Occasionally one will crawl nearby and catch their eye but then they seem to think twice and decide to pass. I'm relieved.

    No Crow Rooster collar

@NewlyHatchedEgg thank you for your sentiment. I'm sorry to hear about Uncle Sam too. I know I treat my chickens more like pets too, but my kids and even my husband have started to really warm up to the idea. I'm still not sure if I had the collar too tight on Danny, he seemed fine up until I...

    No Crow Rooster collar

Thank you so much kittydoc. I am a new chicken owner, getting help and tips from my mother in law, she's owned chickens before. Yes I was able to just get the tip of my pinky finger under the collar, and he had done alright with it for days. But the day before he passed, he vomited up some white...

    No Crow Rooster collar

Well I think I had the collar on to tight or something. My baby had been wearing it for about 2 weeks but kept loosening it so I would readjust it each night. It never really stopped the crowing but did quiet it. But Monday afternoon I found him dead in his coop. I've been crying ever since and...

    Good food - bad food

Hello there! I am in the process of building a new coop there my chickens will be moved to, but the back yard is full of "red shouldered bugs" which are similar to box elder beetles. I've read that they are poisonous and don't want to move my chickens until I know they'll be safe. Does anyone...

    Chickengirl64 is new to chickens

Hello everyone! I'm so excited to join byc! I have 6 chickens, about 3 months old, one of which is pet status, Danny follows me around and never minds being picked up and cuddled. Danny turned out to be a rooster, but I love his crowing!

    No Crow Rooster collar

Hello all! I have a rooster (I think, just 3 months old and starting to crow) and I am extremely attached to him. I just put on a little Velcro collar and he's not happy! He was walking backwards and tripping trying to get away from it, but that has stopped and now he's just picking at it. He...
