Turns out the ice was because a prolapsed vent and her poop was sort of trickling out and freezing. No broken shells in the ice or bits of egg. She may also have vent gleet on top of it all. I've been bathing her each day, cleaning her bottom, wiping with witch hazel and antibiotic cream and...

Ironically, my chicken named Elsa, has ice on her bottom. As soon as i noticed it, I kept her in the house at night and it melted. However, it was back again two days later. I'm assuming it's from breaking eggs? Anyone else run into this? And any advice?

Can you tell me what happened to the rest of the flock after your hen died? The same thing is happening to me (same symptoms and not expecting her to live through the night) and i'm a little worried about the rest of the gals.
