    Peep Show is correct on the regs for Abq. Where on the "west side " are you moving - I've heard the same about Rio Rancho; not welcome there.

    Our coop design is based on the Wichita Cabin Coop - with slight variations to overall dimensions. Dimensions of the enclosed, covered run are 13'-4" x 5'-4" and the hen-house measures 5'-4" square. We're located in Albuquerque, New Mexico (zone 7b) . The coop will be sufficient for 10 hens but...

    Anyone use SAND in the run/coop

    Find a local concrete supply company - they will have what's typically called construction or masonry sand - that is what we used.

    Roost!?!?

    Roosts are almost 5' wide and they are at least 12" apart. I'll see about 6 of them on the top one and 2 on the lower one.

    You're welcome - it all came together for our 8 girls :) When I 1st decided we were going to do this , I really scoured the www for process stories to understand things and then said we would do the same for someone else wanting to try. Glad you found it interesting :)

    hahaha - the kids were a huge help building the coop! Architect Dad had them doing things they didn't understand at first but they kept with it and achieved our goal :) Thank you for the complement - the family worked hard together to get 'er done .
