    Coughing or sneezing? Help!

He is a video of her breathing and the sneeze, toward the end you can hear a bit of the wheezing. I don’t think she has discharge on her nostrils there was a little wetness by the one but it was pretty low on the beak and I think it was just from the snow.

    Coughing or sneezing? Help!

I just checked on marg again and now she seems to be having some problems breathing, she is a little wheezy when she breaths. Less sneezing but she still does it. I’m going to try and upload a video.

    Coughing or sneezing? Help!

One of my EE’s started making a strange sound, it reminds me of a very soft bark. I’ve watched different videos and think it’s probably a sneeze over a cough. She is acting normal as far as I can tell but I noticed the sound around 4pm today and she wasn’t doing it earlier today around 1pm. I...

    Chick grit

Our chicks are 6 weeks old and we just introduced them to the coop 3 days ago. I started using Mana Pro chick grit at about two weeks. My questions is, when do you switch to normal size grit? They have access to a run that we will try introducing them to today. Do we even need grit once they are...

    Pasty Butt

It was on the downy feathers below it. So maybe they sat in some and it stuck to them. I figured if I didn’t clean it off, it would just get worse and then harder to clean, thus stressing them out even more.

    Pasty Butt

I have been checking my chicks for pasty butt since I got them April 1st. They have been all good this far but today I noticed two had just a bit of poop stuck to the back downy feathers. Not on the vent or around. I cleaned them both up to prevent it from getting worse but did I really need to...

    Wild Birds

I’m wondering if the Turkey barns adjacent to us will also count against us.

    Wild Birds

I should also add. I don’t think our girls will be able to free range much if at all. We have a pair of eagles that nest at our property. And this spring we have seen another pair hanging around.

    Wild Birds

I’ve read a few different blog posts about not having bird feeders for wild birds if you plan to keep chickens due to the avian flu possibility. I’m wondering peoples opinions on this. Could I possibly keep a feeder away from where the coop and run is? We cut down to only one feeder, partially...

    Using a Heat Plate

I read a little more into this method, Like you most people have used them in pretty low temps with great success. May I ask what brand of heat pad you’ve had luck with?

    Using a Heat Plate

Our temps are colder then they will be come April 1st. It’s an unheated and uninsulated garage. The temps will be about the same as the outside temps at the time maybe a degree or two warmer. I think we are possibly talking about two different things. In my original post, 12x12 referenced the...

    Using a Heat Plate

We purchased a 12x12 heat plate for our 10 chicks. After doing even more research and reading the manual that comes with the plate, I’m a little worried we made the wrong decision to use one. We will be brooding in our garage come April 1st. We live in Wisconsin, the temp outlook looks to be...
