Hey All.
I am planning to raise a larger batch of meat birds this year and am looking for inspiration on where/how to rest them. I usually raise 30 and use my ducks pool and a couple of coolers but I am going to need more room this year. So what do you use to rest your chickens after processing...
Hello.
I have the opposite problem of most guinea owners, I can't get them to leave my backyard. I want them to free range over my property, eat ticks and in the spring eat my garden bugs but all they do is sit next to my chickens and turkeys and eat feed all day. They pick on my chickens...
My Pekins started laying at exactly 7 months. At first mine lay their eggs wherever they please, it helps if they are locked in there house so you will know where they lay. Mine usually lay by 6:45 am so I let them out then. After a couple weeks mine actually made a nest to lay in. I had to find...
I figure I will add my two cents to this. Last year my flock came down with IB after having a person with a sick flock visit my yard . After lots of contemplating we decided to cull everyone and it was very traumatic! I wanted to do the responsible thing and not infect any other flocks by...
Hello,
New to raising ducks. I have 4 Pekins, 3 which are proving to be drakes. I am planning on putting the extra males in the freezer. My question is can I have a pair of Pekins or will the female be over mated by the drake?
Thank you!
Angie
I have 32 broilers in the brooder now, they are 2 weeks old today. I usually raise the males to 8-9 weeks and the females to 10 weeks. Mine free range with my girls so they grow a little slower but end up dressing out to 6.5 -8 lbs. Thinking about doing a batch of 40 -50 in the fall, my husband...
Hello Neighbor!
I am in the same boat as you, my first time with ducklings and they are about 5 weeks old and I'm really battling with keeping a dry brooder. I have their bowl over a box with the wire on top so most of the water spills into their, that does help. Although now that they are...
It wad on 125 in Barrington. I think my fall meat birds I will order through Blue Seal and my layers will always be local. I don't want to relive this experience lol
I'm having some bad luck with chicks! I just picked up some meaties to replace the ones that died. I should have waited! I went to this dive of a feed store I have never been to, when I opened the door and lost my breath from the amonia smell I should've turned and left. But no, I bought chicks...
Thanks everyone for the well wishes. I lost several more over night, I'm pretty upset obviously. I have had good luck with Meyers in the past, I hope this is just a terrible fluke. Hope everyone else's chicks arrive safe and sound!
Angie
They were shipped from Ohio (Meyers) Monday at 4:30pm and arrived here in Raymond this morning at 6:30. So not too long and there were heating pads. It looks like rough handling to me?
I am so upset! Just picked my chicks up from the post office and 21 out of 41 chicks are dead! And I'm sure I will lose more before the day is done. What a horrible sight to open that box and see all those dead babies. Horrible!
