My flock is 6 weeks old and still cuddles together on the ground at night even though we have plenty of roost bar/space for them in the coop. During the day they roost and sleep on the roost bars out in the enclosure and will even go into the coop and nap on the roost bars but once night hits...
We are going to place a stop guard (piece of pvc) about 6inchs from the back of the run when we go to move the whole unit...it is rather heavy and moves very slow so chickens will just move with it. The stop guard will push them away from the back and prevent any squished feet. Haven't attempted...
