    4-H quality at least?

He did pretty well and the judge said that even though the bird isn't old enough for confirmation yet, it will do fine at the fair, no DQs. 👍

    4-H quality at least?

I bought like 25 from a hatchery hoping there would be a few decent quality birds. This one is the best so far. However, they aren't supposed to be bearded, from this hatchery, and the beard isn't very full. (There were a bunch with single combs and messed up toes and some just aren't very...

    Best dual purpose rooster?

I had brahmas once and they were sweet girls and big, but I need a clean leg bird. Snow and mud is too much here. I already have BCMs and Silkies to cater to, Lol 😆 I want the dual purpose/ meat birds to be low maintenance. (Another selling point for our weather here. Everyone has snow/mud...

    Best dual purpose rooster?

I did hear that about hatcheries. There is an American Bresse breeder I was thinking about visiting here.... 🤔

    Best rooster breed?

Thanks for that advice. I definitely don't want to feed giant meat chickens for over a year.... I'll look into the other breeds you mentioned.

    Best rooster breed?

Yeah, that's exactly my dilemma. I've heard the dual purpose breeds from the hatcheries still don't give much meat so I was thinking of crossing them with the jersey giant to get more meat out of them but I still want a lot of eggs too. A good dual purpose breed would sell like crazy where I...

    Best rooster breed?

Hi, I am wanting to start a good dual purpose flock. The hens will be various dual purpose breeds like australorp, RIR, orpington, barred rock and jersey giant. Now for the rooster.... I want the offspring to be good for meat. I was considering using a jersey giant for the rooster but I don't...

    Chicks pecking a polish

Thanks for that tip. I put them back in and fed everyone fresh food and I'm keeping an eye on them. So far so good. I knew I would eventually need to separate them, I just figured a month is still pretty young. Time to build more coops 😂

    Chicks pecking a polish

Hi, I have 4 polish in with about 12 other non-crested breeds. They are all about a month old. The polish have their crest feathers coming in. My son pointed out that one was bleeding a little. I don't see any real damage, just a little tiny dot of blood. I'm assuming the non-crested was curious...

    Dying chick, help

She didn't make it. I posted a picture of her last poop. Does it look normal? I got the corid and safeguard. Idk if I should treat everyone or not. It happened so fast, I almost wonder if she got injured. The other birds are much bigger, although there were only 6 of them in that pen.

She isn't very interested in drinking or eating right now, how do I make sure she gets enough?
