I was given 17 Bob white eggs so I threw them in my DIY incubator and when they hatched I was surprised how fast they went from pip to out in the wire they are amazing for their size.
Also a lot of people don't listen to directions that come with bators and I didn't either I went with "dry method " highs in 40% lows in the high teens.
I'm rather new to incubation and I went nuts trying to regulate my rh in my bator and I started with turkeys 28 days!!!!!!! The first two weeks I added and removed sponges trying to get it perfect then I talked to a older gentleman who said I was going to kill myself if I didn't stop he told me...
I'm not an expert at this but I think it would take longer than 30 minutes to raise temp inside the eggs to 105. You did do the right thing in opening door and spritzing water.Did humidity go back up quickly? I know when I set my first batch it took 24 hours to bring eggs up from room...
I would not get worried about time taken keep humidity up so membrane doesn't dry out and things will be fine my first hatch had me calling my relatives to check eggs at hatch time second hatch was less stressful for meand my family first hatch took 2 days second 14 hours total. Be patient and...
It looked hard to me then I set down and started wiring and it all came. I'm a machinist not a electrician. But I have a handle on this now. If you get the parts I can talk you through it.

This is my turner it turns a single tray but is prototype for my soon to be built cabinet bator in its first run it turned 28 turkey eggs for 25 days no troubles it turns every 1.5 hours to mitigate hot and cold spots I made arms out of aluminum but could be made of wood or sheet metal and...
I incubate in a DIY styrofoam cooler incubator in my basement witch right now is 30%rh but when I turn on the bator inside drops to about 12-15% I add enough water to get it to 30% every 3-4 days then let it drop low again until 3 days before hatch then raise it to 60% worked well on first two...
The last time I posted I put 12 eggs in bator that were started by a broody that was given chicks from a hen that would not take care of them I did not know when she started sitting on them but today I had my second hatch of Cochins. Of the 12 eggs 3 were cracked by hens toes shells seamed thin...
I'm back was out of incubating due to broody hens taking all the eggs but after one hatched and decided she wanted nothing to do with chicks to the point of staying on a roost to get away from them my grandfather decided to put chicks under a reliable hen who was happy to set less than a week...

I think that the lack of light may have something to do with the problem if the chicks are away from heat pad when it gets dark or move away in the dark they may not be able to see well enough to find their way back to heat I'm sorry to hear of your loss and hope you figure out...
