    Red or Clear Heat Lamp

When we started incubating, I know I read that the infra-red heat lamp bulbs are hotter than regular incandescent bulbs because of the kind of light waves they produce - and can be dangerous (overheating, potential for fire) if not used correctly. Either way, 250W sounds hot! Best to put a...

how to convince someone your eggs are OK?

Quote: Good point! Sometimes people are only comfortable with things that are familiar. In this case, it really is too bad, though - they really don't know what they are missing!

how to convince someone your eggs are OK?

I'm guessing from your name and the description you gave - they must be Silkie eggs... we have Silkies, too & thoroughly enjoy the eggs our little hens have been laying. However, some people have actually said to us, "You don't eat those eggs, do you?" We always reply, "Of course we do, and they...

    grrrrrr! lay an egg already!!

Soon, probably... I always heard about 6 months was normal for most breeds to start laying - and if your hens are about that old, then they should begin laying any time now.

State Of Ohio Issue 2 (READ BEFORE VOTING)

Sounds like we are being forced to choose the better of 2 evils on this issue. How did it come to this anyway? Is is because of the success of agri-business in the State of Ohio? Have they drawn too much attention to themselves, so in the eyes of those who govern, are now in need of more...

small, longish brown bugs found in chicken feed!

Return it for sure - be careful to check new bags for bugs if buying from the same supplier. Look for holes in feed bag. Fresh feed should be bug free!

    silkie question updated**

You should try to find a new home for one of the roo's; there will be alot of fighting for dominance as they get more mature; and even if the boys manage to work out their differences, your single little pullet will definitely get overused, maybe even hurt in the process.

What would happen if you let your ducks go out in the wild?

Quote: OMG!!!!! To think these poor creatures were bread to be pets. This breaks my heart.... everyone who is considering releasing animals should have to go to this post first. As I am replying, tears of rage and pity are streaming down my face.

What would happen if you let your ducks go out in the wild?

It is never a good idea to let domestic animals or livestock "go" into the wild. For starters, the environmental impact is unknown & could be devastating to local wild flocks of ducks. You could advertise in your newspaper to give them away to someone who may really want them (maybe a 4-H'er)...
