How long do young females quack loud?

For us the 2 calls are the same age (one noisy, one quiet), and the noisier Swedish is younger than the quieter ones lol

    Ducks Cant decide.

It can really depend on the parent duck and drakes and how they have been raised... we have 3 Swedish Blue ducks, 2 call ducks, a pekin and a Buff Orpington drake. The quietest and noisiest of the ducks are the 2 calls that we got when they were about a year old. 2nd loudest is one of the...

How long do young females quack loud?

Out of 6 girls we have one that doesn't shut up (a call duck), 1 that quacks for food and to be let out of the coop in the morning (a pekin), 3 that quack for food (Swedish blues) and one that rarely quacks (another call)!! So, 5 out of 6 for us are still quackers...

    Any idea on gender?

We did manage to pick up the one that looks like a Buff yesterday and no sound at all, we had 3 of this colouring in the 10 ducklings.. the light coloured one is confusing as it's still not quacking and 'should' be sex-linked to the Buff drake (ie one Buff gene only = ducks) but we think the...

    Any idea on gender?

They were with mum for the first couple of weeks and she was very protective (unusually for a pekin) so while they are very friendly they aren't easily caught. We aren't too worried at the moment what they are as they are so chilled out so I guess we will keep playing the waiting game lol.

    Any idea on gender?

We have 3 remaining that we are still unsure of their gender... they still haven't quacked but we aren't sure if that's unusual? (Born around Nov 9 to a nesting mum). Only drake is a Buff Orpington... mum could be either a pekin or Swedish Blue or call duck (but we don't think call duck due to...

    Any idea on gender?

Update - we took 6 of the 10 to the vet to have them checked and see if they could tell us their gender (as we needed to balance gender for someone who had 2 drakes and 1 duck)... she believes wasn't sure with the dark brown as they are a bit older now making venting more difficult. Anyway, the...

    Any idea on gender?

Here they are this morning... one of our call ducks has taken over mumma duties now lol, the pekin has mostly gone back to the flock. We think we have decided which ones we are keeping so hopefully will be able to figure out which are ducks and drakes so we can responsibly move on the rest.

    Any idea on gender?

We think the brown ones are girls plus some of the white ones... I'll try and get a new photo tomorrow. Fairly sure at least one drake (which is fine - We will keep him, we love his colouring). 3 are going to a new home on Monday regardless of gender, 2 or 3 others are going to go to balance...

    Any idea on gender?

For the bigger ducklings - that are growing at a faster rate too - I'm also going on head and bill shape and colour, how noisy they are, how much our Buff drake 'harasses' them (till 'mum' puts him in his place). There's some that are definitely different to the pure pekins we have had in the...

    Any idea on gender?

Not entirely sure if the one on the far right is the swedish blue or just a little bit of the white call... if it's the swedish they are both more 'blue' than they look in the previous photo... this is closer to their colour when not moulting lol

    Any idea on gender?

Our pekin sat on eggs and hatched 10 ducklings... we are fairly sure they are not all hers lol The only drake we have is a Buff Orpington, the ducks are pekin, swedish blues (dark and lighter blue, and call ducks) We don't think there were any call duck eggs. I've had a look at the colour...

    Surprise ducks - help

We also live in a cooler climate and when we have hatched incubated eggs we have typically started the ducklings in a plastic storage container (we have a 120L container with the top cut out replaced with wire - we also use it to transport the ducks to the vet if needed when they are older). We...

Any thoughts on whether duck or drake?

She still won't sit still for long, but he is now a bit more of a poser lol
