After coccidiosis chick death: disposal and sanitation?

Ok, good to know! Maybe I’ll pick up some medicated feed. As far as treating the other chicks, I usually agree about not treating animals without symptoms. That said- this chick looked totally fine last night. I went to give them fresh feed and water this morning (we hang the food and water...

After coccidiosis chick death: disposal and sanitation?

Thank you! I appreciate the advice. All of the other littles are still looking good but I’m going to keep a close eye on them. What are your thoughts on giving medicated feed along with Corid water? I’ve never used medicated feed before, but I’ve also never dealt with cocc. Now I’m a little...

After coccidiosis chick death: disposal and sanitation?

Please forgive me if this is posted somewhere, I couldn't find exact answers. (Feel free to link if you know.) I have one 4 week old chick that passed today from coccidiosis. There are 7 other chicks the same age but all look fine currently, I am giving them Corid water just to be on the safe...

    Chicken bumblefoot surgery mistake?

Thank you so much! I've been needing to update. A friend of a friend called in oral amoxicillin for her but we didn't see much progress. I finally found a vet in the next town over that will see chickens! I took her in and they cleaned out all of the infection, I guess I hadn't gotten all of it...

    Chicken bumblefoot surgery mistake?

Thanks! I appreciate the advice. I just ordered a really small coop to use for a "chicken hospital" and will keep her separated until it gets here. Getting antibiotics! I haven't administered any pain medication but honey was recommended to help.

    Chicken bumblefoot surgery mistake?

I will definitely look into that. I have been cleaning with betadine and spraying with Vetericyn, then applying plain Neosporin without the pain relief ingredients. I never thought of Silver or that it would be pet safe, I bet that's a great treatment!

    Chicken bumblefoot surgery mistake?

Thank you! I would think that too, but the other foot had a scrape so I've been wrapping that one with a little Neosporin to help it heal/not become infected. It has the same amount of dressing but she can close her foot just fine on that side. When I put a little pressure on the toes on the...

    Chicken bumblefoot surgery mistake?

Hi! I'm new here, looking for some insight on a bumblefoot operation performed last night. I have a chicken that had a VERY bad infection. By the time I noticed it, it was pretty far along. I did my best to go the non-invasive route with Epsom salt soaks and Prid drawing salve, but it seemed to...
