I was just wondering thr same thing. My chicken feed is 16 or so percent protein, just like my rabbit pellets. I bet I could feed both, but I would need to supplement calcium to the chickens frnegg laying.
I just realized that I can remove some of the rails on my turner, so now the turkey eggs can keep turning and the chicken eggs are in lockdown and already hatching! I feel so smart that I figured this out.
We are mid-hatch with some chocolate orpingtons, some black/lavender orpingtons, and a week out on some turkey eggs. We shall see! About half of the eggs were duds, so I really hope we get a good hatch rate now.
Good luck with your chicks! Just FYI, if you are looking to hatch a hen that lays blue eggs, the rooster must be from a blue egg breed. That is how it works with all the egg laying hybrids. The hens get their egg color from the rooster that sired them.
