Popping in to say Hi to all the new folks...been so busy haven't had a chance to actually login and comment but great so see there are still others out there...
We just added a flock of Australorp hens to our "menagerie" they are 14 weeks old now so we are looking forward to eggs in the spring -...
My 7 month old pullets have just stopped laying and started shedding feathers as well...it is autumn here now - typical moulting time I believe?? how long do they stay off laying??? I was just getting excited about collecting eggs for incubation and my girls stopped laying lol
Just interested to hear if anyone else has hens that go crazy in the early hours of the morning making the most incredible din, nothing like their egg laying cackle, nor the alarm call just a general puck puck at the top of their voices and can go on for tens of minutes???? even the Rooster...
Watched all the videos...and more...devastated to see how the little fluffies are handled at the hatcheries :( but having said that - our mortality rate on day old chicks is less than 5% so it cant be tooooo bad for them...
