I discovered this to actually be normal. If you squeeze it, you should see white foam coming out. That bulb has to do with breeding, it pretty much shows up during breeding season.
Conclusion is there's nothing to worry about, it's a natural phenomenon that is not painful and can be a good sign...
It looks a little like a Juvenile Chukar, mainly due to the thick bill with a reddish tint and the hints of an eye stripe, but the plumage doesn't quite match. :idunno
If you could get some more pictures with a little better lighting, might make Identification easier.
To be fair, I just glanced at it, noticed the speckling, and called Red Wing. I didn't necessarily take note of how dark it was. Again, a little rusty. Lol

I had one really badly scalped quail that healed up (scabs and all) in a week! Was in bad shape too, almost all the skin on the back of its neck was gone. Tended to it twice daily and put it back in with the others once all the scabs were gone only a week later.

I had two pullets and a cockerel die within hours of showing signs of lethargy and bloody stool. Get Corid and treat ASAP! It's the only reason the rest of my flock is alive today
Sulfa does require a prescription most places, at least with any local or online vendors that would be able to ship it in a timely fashion. Jedds will take just over a week and a half to ship.
