    I discovered this to actually be normal. If you squeeze it, you should see white foam coming out. That bulb has to do with breeding, it pretty much shows up during breeding season.     Can someone tell me what type of quail this is?

    It looks a little like a Juvenile Chukar, mainly due to the thick bill with a reddish tint and the hints of an eye stripe, but the plumage doesn't quite match. :idunno If you could get some more pictures with a little better lighting, might make Identification easier.

    It’s only a flesh wound but…

    I had one really badly scalped quail that healed up (scabs and all) in a week! Was in bad shape too, almost all the skin on the back of its neck was gone. Tended to it twice daily and put it back in with the others once all the scabs were gone only a week later.
