I was born in Texas, moved to Utah and went back and forth from Utah to New Mexico for most of my early childhood. I grew up hunting and fishing with my dad and my Auntie had chickens, ducks, geese and peacocks. I loved gathering eggs for her when I stayed with her...except for her not so nice roosters!
Now that I live in Herriman, Utah in a log cabin home for the past 13 years...I've decided to start making my home mine. I recently built a 6' X 11' coop/run (since built another cop and perimeter). It's pretty awesome but have had a lot of design struggles since my house is on the side of a mountain. I'll post pictures when it's done.
I have inherited 13 hens with my coop 8 from the coop's previous owner, 2 more from my neighbor and 3 from a friend that was moving (this all happened so fast I had no idea what I was getting myself into). They are all fully grown hens. Although I have had my exposure to hens I really am a newbie and need to learn as much as I can about how to take care of these girls.
I have really enjoyed the first week of Hen Mom duties, except my buff had poopy vent and I had to give her a butt wash day 5....so, I'm officially broke in. I'm sure I'll have a lot of experiences, laughs and a few tears but I'm looking forward to this wonderful experience. AND, THANKS FOR SHARING IT WITH ME
***Update***Now have 17 hens, 4 chicks and two coops with an attached run and and experior enclosure. Go big or go home! Love my girls!
Today 9-15-18 got 4 more = 25 total. Ice lost my mind!!!
