3 hens with neck feather issues..not sure what it is/how to treat it? (Pictures included)

Ahhh, I see. From what I was reading, you had to pierce through the nostrils and it sounds painful! Good to know...I will keep that in mind! They all settled peacefully last night....of course they got to free-range all day because the weather was so warm. We shall see how they fare tonight...

3 hens with neck feather issues..not sure what it is/how to treat it? (Pictures included)

Thanks for the info. I can definitely separate the offenders from the flock once I find out who is causing the harm...but I dont have the stomach to use the specs, lol. From what i've read, you have to pin them through the nostrils. I cant help but think that it would hurt them?

3 hens with neck feather issues..not sure what it is/how to treat it? (Pictures included)

Definitely have enough space...our coop is 6x10 and the run is 30x24. I will watch them tonight to see who is doing the pecking. I hate seeing them looking so rough! They are free-ranging today since its warm and I think that will help them to be tired out tonight. We've got 5 roosting bars in...

3 hens with neck feather issues..not sure what it is/how to treat it? (Pictures included)

Thank you so much for the advice. I'm going to follow it! No more bread, scratch and corn for now. My Orps might be low but i'm doubtful that my Brahma is lower in the pecking order. She was the boss over all of them in the summer kept everyone else in line. I have 2 Isa Browns that keep to...

no roosters...no I didnt check the vents. Since the problem was around the neck, I didnt think the vent would be involved.

3 hens with neck feather issues..not sure what it is/how to treat it? (Pictures included)

3 of my 11 girls have lost feathers in a ring around their neck. My Buff Brahma looks the worst while my 2 Buff Orpingtons only have light feather loss with healthy looking skin underneath. The brahma's neck looks really rough. They are all eating fine and seem content...i've looked for...

    14 wk old roo's odd behavior....wing & leg stretching/stumbling.

Thanks so much....and YES, he only does it when he is right in front of the hens. I saw him try to mount them twice yesterday. Also, when he tried to mount one of my girls that is in full molt, he pulled a ton of her feathers out so I grabbed him and carried him around for 10 minutes....then I...

    14 wk old roo's odd behavior....wing & leg stretching/stumbling.

My 14 wk old maran/easter egger mix rooster has been exhibiting some odd behavior over the last few days. I'm thinking it might be due to him coming to sexual maturity but i'm not sure. First, he is crowing all throughout the day for the last 3 days, which I know is normal for roos. The main...

Bald neck on Australorp for over 2 months...any ideas? Picture Included.

She definitely is lower in the pecking order but I rarely see other hens peck at her. I have 10 hens and the coop is 8'x6' and the combined runs are 32'x24' & 14'x12'. Thats about 1,000 square feet or 100 sq feet per hen, which I think is ok. There is no free ranging anymore. We had a fox attack...

Bald neck on Australorp for over 2 months...any ideas? Picture Included.

My Black Australorp has been losing neck feathers for a few months now. She seems otherwise healthy and is eating and pooping fine. The rest of the flock are fine....no mites, fleas and the coop is kept clean. Does anyone have any ideas what the problem might be and if I should be worried? The...

Can I get antibiotics for chickens at tractor Supply or is this something a vet would have to prescribe? Sorry for my obvious lack of knowledge....i'm learning as I go! :)

    Fox bite advice

I let my 10 hens outside 2 days ago and sat on my swing while they foraged. After they'd been out for 10 minutes or so, a fox ran out of the woods, ran right past me and went after my hens. I jumped up and screamed and ran at the fox. Before I got to her, she grabbed one of my girls (a barred...

Adding ducklings and chicks to my existing flock...2 questions & pictures

From what i've read, you have to keep them separated for awhile....can you put up a divider between the new and older chickens so they can get used to each other before they try living together? My new ducks and chickens are kept in a different area so the older chickens dont attack the...
