Still working with the planning committee to get our chicken ordinance changed in Swatara Township, PA. Very sad how long the process takes. Our ordinance states that you must own 5 acres before you can raise chickens. Really?? Chickens do not need 5 acres.
Still hoping that Swatara Township PA will change their ordinance soon. I amwriting letters and contacting the Commissioners by e-mail and going to meetings.
Swatara Township Ordinance:
§ 295-67Raising of livestock and poultry.
A.
Minimum lot area: five acres, except a minimum lot area of 25 acres shall apply for an intensive raising of livestock or poultry use.
I was confused at first. You have to check Chapter 295 - Zoning - live stock for the 5 acre minimum, not just Chapter 104 - Animals. I have written to the Commisioners to get these Ordinaces changed.
