Platnium and Fawn, how is it made?

Mu understanding is that platinum is blue plus dun/fawn. While mauve is blue plus sex linked chocolate. The one example of a platinum bird I've been able to find (on the internet), shows an almost steel grey on the places that would be black, with a warm tone,, not translucent like mauve. Blue...

Platnium and Fawn, how is it made?

For fawn/dun and khaki it helps to think of it like andalusian blue. Khaki is essentially "splash" fawn/dun. If you bred a khaki to a blue splash, the offspring should all be platinum. But you might need to breed dun into an orpington line first. It's a project within a project.

    Mauve Orpington or Mauve/Chocolate Laced?

She looks mauve to me. Mauve is the combination of sex-linked chocolate and andalusian blue. The "lacing" on her feathers is the effect of chocolate gene and melanotic, it's the same edging you see on blues. If you breed her to a black rooster the chicks will all be blacks and blues, with all...

Black chicken with yellow/gold on neck

Yes, but I was trying to describe what a Brown Red looks like. If you're looking at a group of roosters trying to figure out which one matches that hen you want to look for a rooster that looks like a bbr but without wing tips. How else do you describe a Brown Red rooster?

Black chicken with yellow/gold on neck

Bbr without the wingtip is the easiest way I know to describe a Brown Red rooster.

Black chicken with yellow/gold on neck

I'd wager a bantam orpington cross of some kind. They can come in birchen and that would help explain the build she has without feathered legs. For her mate look for a black breasted red or gold, that has a red shoulder and a black wing. You don't want one with a colored wing tip. Her color is...

    Cochin color breeding questions

Ok, the mom seems heterozygous for the pattern gene, which is expected. Dad... does not look "correct" for cochin crele. He has alot of black in the hackles and appears split for gold/silver, or otherwise has something diluting gold. I believe he may be birchen based, but I could be wrong If...

    Cochin color breeding questions

Do you know the background of your crele rooster or the mille fleur, and do you have pictures of their daughter as a chick? Some cochin breeders were using barred brown reds for their crele projects rather than partridge.

    Cochin color breeding questions

Ooh... it will be very interesting to see how her pattern develops. For now she looks like what passes for crele in cochins. In bantam cochins "Crele" is usually barred partridge. If you like the look of the rooster, you could get him a partridge hen. Breeding him to his daughters will get you...

    Cochin color breeding questions

Are those the only 4 cochins that you have? If so, aquire a good quality black. Bred to splash all the chicks will be blue, and breeding blue to black will get you both colors. Splash to splash will breed more splash, but it's not a recognized color. If you add black to the mix, you'll be...

Is $150 a hen fair for show Brahmas?

MPC's Brahmas are not show quality. They can be a great choice for people not looking to show. They at least look like their breed, unlike Ideal's "Blue Andalusians". Anyone looking to breed for show will be sorely disappointed if they buy from a hatchery for that purpose.

    Easter egger??

In that case they're probably "Americanas". They are a hatchery hybrid bred from Araucanas to Ameraucanas proprietary to Hoovers Hatchery. Hoovers supplies the chicks to most (all?) TSC locations.

    Chicken Breeds Health Problems

A non functional animal is a non-showable animal. A bird in pain is stressed, and will not look good. It will not be able to be shown, it will not win awards, and it will likely not be breedable. Stressed hens don't lay eggs. I'm just not sure where you're getting this idea of show chickens...

    Chicken Breeds Health Problems

Are you referring to ornamental breeds, or questioning human agricultural development? Different breeds have different purposes, meat, eggs, etc. Even breeds that are technically ornamental, like Silkies, are bred for their broodiness and are used to hatch eggs of non-broody breeds/species...

    The Moonshiner's Leghorns

Quail Duckwing Leghorns? I'm always fascinated by the possibilities of new varieties of established breeds. That pullet is like finding a clue on a treasure hunt. Leghorns and cochins bantams each have enough varieties, that they carry the pieces to many other varieties established in other...
