cool. I figured in nature they would be sorted out to molt before the cold weather kicks in, but today is kinda one of those freak days where winter came early, lol, wasn't sure how they'd react to that! good to know they would be fine :)
but i'm wondering... say you live in Winnipeg, and your chicken is looking like the white one with it's pink skin showing... it's snowing today in the 'Peg, wouldn't your chicken not do too good in the snow?
I had also been in contact with Quinte West Let Me Keep My Chickens (they have a FB page) and they did an awesome job at guiding me and suggesting different routes to achieve my goal. It's too bad they are banned in Belleville though, wish i could help fight it!
I just went through my emails and found his name...
Greg Pinchin, B.E.S., MCIP, RPP
Special Projects Planner
Engineering & Development Services Department
City of Belleville
the problem with the bylaw is that we fall under the old county's rules, not the post amalgamation rules, so nobody...
Hey Eden, thanks for your reply! I actually did get a hold of the right person (can't remember his name though). He's the guy in charge of planning and development with the city, and was incredibly helpful! Chickens are allowed in Foxboro as long as your property is not zoned as RR (rural...
i was thinking more of a heated pad that would go on the floor. I don't want my birds to freeze.
the inside walls are already built (plywood) just looking for what's best to put it between it and the outside walls.
Our vents are all up near the roof so I'm assuming having a heating pad won't...
I am aware chickens don't need to be insulated for most of you guys, but up here it gets real cold at night, and I rather be safe than sorry!
what would be the best insulation to use? does it matter?
also... I want to instal some sort of heating system, any suggestions?
thanks for all the info, you guys are awesome! We are new to this area, and straight out of the big city, so we're still learning about the local country wild life... gonna do everything i can to keep my flock safe!
I only named those ones above because it's all we have in my area that could go for the birds, I'm sure there are plenty more predators out there though! I hear possums are bad for chickens, so glad I don't have to worry about those!
Oh wait, could toads be an issue? would the chickens peck at...
so we know skunks, raccoons, foxes, coyotes, hawks, dogs, cats... will potentially kill a chicken...
we have a LOT of porcupines here this year, are they a threat too?
